Whilst I agree with you, does this realisation not motivate you to attempt to change things?

I do think it is important to identify the causes of societies problems but I think we need to be careful not to end our attempt at change after merely identifying them and I think we have a duty to keep an open mind and ensure that we have identified them accurately.

I'd love to attempt to change things as long as I found people that agreed with me, people with the same state of mind, the same goals, same intentions. Until then, I just hope something happens. Nothing can happen unless there is tons of support. It's nearly beyond repair in my opinion, I think it will take something drastic to bandage the problems with our society. Most peole I talk to agree with me, most people I talk to are afraid to make a progressive move to make a difference, including myself. My mind is open and my fingers are crossed.

Well no. I don't blame the government completely but they are a major contribution, it's obviously more so the parents fault. I can't really say just the government, I should say television, music, pretty much our culture and the main role models in this newish culture. The parents let it happen. Let their kids watch tv all day, let their kids listen to gangster rap and things of that nature, otherwise they will go crazy. "My friends do it! how come they can! it's not fair! blah blah blah. influence is a real thing. It's hard to point figures or blame anymore, because people usually just go with the flow of things. I'm just not liking the general flow of things outside my town.

Why are you complaining? It's all in God's plan and it's a good indication that the rapture is fast approaching. You'll be with God soon and your concerns will all magically disappear.

I guess this isn't a good place for the "rapture" discussion.

We are living on earth now and our ancestors will be living on it, we don't want them to suffer. That is why we have to try and make this earth a better place. Sarcastic remarks about the rapture and so on are not helpful.

Religion is not working it's magic anymore... why? While a lot of people claim their christian-like or believe in a god, they don't live their lives as such. People that do go overboard like crazy usually or misinterpret it. Young teenagers are having sex, exposing their bodies, doing drugs, drinking, and all that nonsense. Why? because instead of looking towards a religion or a philosophy, they are watching tv, and this is what it takes to be cool, to be hip, and to be accepted by their peers. Do parents care? Maybe, what they can do about it? Kids lack discipline. A parent hits their child and they throw them in prison. There was two rapings in DE in the past two months (about an hour from me). One incident involved a 7 year old girl, her older brother (by a couple of years) and his friends raped her. The mother barely did anything. I've lost all faith in newer generations, and most faith in current generations.

Oh jeez, i hope i dont start having sex when i become a teenage, oh wait, i just became a teenager in december:sarcastic

I dont think you know how amazing kids in this generation are. The bad eggs outshadow us because they alre larger, the good side it still in the majority. Im the newest generation on the forum:D

Seriously, a very skeptical post, all because you read a newspaper about a boy who raped a girl and went to become a serial killer.

EDIT: Thanks Christine, that was very very nice of you, sadly i cannot frubal for another 24 hours!

Penguino has a good point. The good teens do outnumber that bad eggs, it is just that the bad eggs get all the publicity. Just like the loud person is heard more than the quiet one. The aggressive person gets ahead of the line in front of the passive people and so on. :)

While I applaud your attitude, who is to say that your state of mind, goals, and intentions are the best for society?

I think the current situation relates directly back to the increasing level of genetic stupid permeating American society. Stupid listens to gangster rap and thinks it's cool to gangbang (the kind where you roll around on the streets in lowriders and hang out on corners looking tough, not the other kind) and kill people. Stupid watches the news and thinks there's nothing more to know. Stupid does a lot of other things. Parents can be stupid, but even smart parents can have stupid offspring. Rather than lowering the bar for stupid so stupid can pass aptitude tests and not be held back, we should raise the bar and force stupid to perform. It's not ok to accept the stupid. The stupid must be eliminated.

I'm sick of 8th graders moving on to high school without being able to read or do long division. I'm sick of 12-year-olds getting pregnant because stupid decided to turn sex-ed into abstinence-ed. I'm also sick of that same stupid blaming the 12-year-old's pregnancy on lack of morals and telling them they can't try again. Teach the kid to use a freakin' condom! Otherwise, it's like spending all of driver's education saying, "don't drive." Speaking of driving, don't float in the left lane, stupid! (Sorry, pet peeve.) If you're obese, don't eat McDonalds double-cheeseburgers. If you're pregnant, don't smoke crack, pot, or cigarettes and don't down 15 vodka drinks in a night. If you're poor, quit popping out more stupid to inflate your welfare check and spend time making sure the kids you have don't add to the stupid. If you're rich, give a little to help reduce the stupid. If you're famous, be a role-model, not a stupid. *cough*britneyspears*cough*

Join the anti-stupid movement. It's non-denominational, multi-cultural, international, and beneficial.

(Did I just turn into Dennis Leary?)

Im a fan of gansta rap and i listen to it, im 13, i hope to get a lowrider one day, so that equals killing? That is a HUGE stereotype. Gangsta rap gave many black americans a business to go into as far as i can see. So by saying gangsta rap kills killing is like me say that all germans who live today are nazis.

That's the exact opposite of what I'm saying. Gangster rap is just like any other music. It's about making money.

STUPID listens to gangster rap and thinks it's cool to kill people. You're not stupid, are you?

What? Your saying stupid people who listen to gansta rap kill... I know lots of stupid people, never think about killing. Music does not tell one to kill, life experiences, and maybe other people, those who can be on the other line or in front of them, thats a stereotypical view of gangsta rap, and im sure none of the artists think that, influence, or promote that. Its music, its to entertain, and NOTHING else.

This is not what he is saying.
He said absolutely nothing about actually killing people.
he said "and think it's cool to kill"
So if you are stupid and listen to gangsta rap and do not think it is cool to kill, then he is not talking about you.

He is still showing a huge stereotypical view of gangsta rap, hip-hop etc.

I let my son listen to rap, but not gansta rap although he loves it. I don't want him to ever think that killing is cool.

If it doesn't effect you, Penguino, then it guess it would be OK. I worry about more weak-minded people than you (not that you are weak-minded).

The last thing you want to do is restrit his music, one thing i love about my parents is that, with music, i am completetly free, i am able to listen to what i like, from what i gather, you musta verry good mother Christine, so im sure the issue of gangsta rap is not a problem. Gangsta rap has some amazing beats, although the lyrics are not clean. Gangsta rap is still beautiful in its own way, i think. Especially with the new generation oh hip hop, gangsta rap haters and lovers.

You show gangsta rap, what abour rock and heavy metal? With things like, Slaying and stuff like that? Dark wierd things? Funny you didnt mention that!

Not funny, really. Kdrier brought up gangster rap, so I addressed that. The argument holds for all types of music. Stupid people will listen to country and think that it's normal to lose your woman, truck, and dog in the same weekend and get drunk to get over it.

Most people start talking about the "the good old days" when they are much older. Maybe you you should start acquiring some good days while you are still young. Time is very fleeting.
Every generation has it's good and bad.
My generation was definitely sending humanity to hell in a handbasket according to some old timers. They could not in their wildest dreams have imagined the advancements we would make in all fields of study.
When I look back and see the corruption that is now coming to light I certainly would not want to be like them.
I have, and probably will always have a small town mentality. Trouble is CNN, if we let them, keeps us well informed with what everyone else is doing.
Maybe you should get out more and see for yourself what is going on. Newscast seem to focus on the bad.

Normally I would not restrict my son's music but he is a special case. He has severe ADHD and Asperger's syndrome. He is almost completely normal, but sometimes he can't tell reality from imagination.

Bud, you need to get over the idea that he's attacked you personally because he's happened to mention something you happen to enjoy listening to by way of an example. I happen to work with someone who thinks anyone who gets on a motorbike is insane on some level. I plan to get a motorbike in the near future, but I'm not there beating him over the head with the fact I'm clearly not insane and shouldn't be lumped in with - as the original post described it - the 'stupid' (who I also work with), who decided that it was a good idea to get a high powered bike he can't legally ride and then ride it without any form of protection. Why am I not up in arms? Because in the case of that guy I happen to agree with him, and in the past I've kown other equally stupid people riding motorbikes.
