Presidential Predictions

A good prediction Sunstone, and I hope you are right. If he (or Bush) wins the popular and not the electoral, it will bring an outcry against the electoral college.

I just hope it doesn't go to the courts again. I want it to be over and decided Tuesday.

There's going to be a heavy turn-out here in Colorado. A friend of mine voted early, which you can do here, and he said the line was an hour and a half long -- the longest he's ever seen it.

That would be so gratifying. I can imagine headlines: 'American Voters Sick of Choosing Between Two Evils, Accidently Elect Green Party'

Then in smaller type below it: '"We didn't think that he would actually go to office!" cry shocked voters.'
Hahahaha :biglaugh: :jiggy:

I went to vote early a couple of days ago, 2 hour line.

I had my little one with me so I couldn`t wait.

I`ll vote Tuesday.

I think Kerry will win, unfortunately. A large number of recently-registered voters intent on voting for "not Bush" have not been accounted for in the polls.

I think this will have the following effects:

Hillary Clinton will be disappointed because this will ruin her chances of running in the next election.

Hmmm....that's pretty much all I can think of right now...given his record, it's pretty difficult to tell what a President Kerry might actually do, once elected. This guy voted against the first Iraq War--now that is baffling. He voted for the second Iraq War, and against a bill to give our troops more body armor. He said he was in Cambodia under Nixon in 1968 when he wasn't, and when LBJ was president...he has said he's Irish just to get more votes in Massachusetts (FYI: he's not Irish). He has both criticized America's use of SUV's, and bragged about his ownership of several SUV's. He's said that no country will decide America's foreign policy, and also that there is "a global test" in American foreign policy. He says he'll increase spending on our homeland defense, on benefits for military servicemen, and on healthcare, and simultaneously reduce the defecit--but he won't raise taxes. He regularly makes ambiguous statements like "I have a plan to create more jobs" and "I have a plan to win the peace" that sound good, but lack substance.

Still, I do have a good idea of what terrorists and several regimes will do if/when Kerry is elected--celebrate. Kerry's election will signify that terrorism is an effective way to intimidate Americans (the same lesson they learned with the Spanish).

I think a lot of people are only going to vote against Bush, not for Kerry. That has nothing to do with this topic, but hey!

Spinkles -

I like you, and I respect your intelligence. That said, your statements lead me to believe that you buy into the spin machine that is Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter and Liddy. It is easy (very easy, in fact) to take the voting record of anyone that has been in Congress for an extended period of time, and find things to spin. Virtually every bill that is introduced in Congress is loaded, absolutely loaded, with riders that have nothing whatsoever to do with the original intent of the bill. For instance, you see a bill that is written to address the tax code, and it will have 600 or 700 riders attached to it, for everything from appropriations for a butterfly study to language reducing the rights of schoolchildren in Iowa. When it is all said and done, no matter how a Senator votes, he will be pilloried by someone - and will almost certainly have no idea what was in those riders, unless he sponsored some of them.
I understand that Kerry has changed his position on some items, but nowhere near what the Republican smear machine has made it out to be.
Here's something to think about - if Kerry really is as bad as all that, how bad does Bush have to be for so many people to have that "anyone but Bush" attitude that you so detest?

This is America - and an untold number of people have given their lives to enable us to have different opinions, voice them, and vote for whom we see fit. So, I'll say this - no matter whom you plan to vote for, be it Bush, Kerry, Nader, or anyone else on Tuesday, please make sure you do go vote. We may not see eye to eye on the candidates, but I truly wish everyone in America would take the time to go vote. It is the single greatest right we have, and it was paid for very dearly. Please don't squander this right.

TVOR-- A fair defense of Kerry's vote on that particular bill. Still, I would be interested in hearing how one would defend his stance against the first Gulf War.

Whoah! Who said I wasn't voting? In fact, I voted last week via absentee ballot, and spent a good deal of time researching the candidates for the Ohio Supreme Court. I did this while listening to a recording of Ray Charles singing America the Beautiful, no less. ;)

P.S.-- For the record, I proudly voted against the anti gay marriage amendment.

1) The first song I ever downloaded from the internet - and it's a masterpiece. Can anyone spell SOUL.

2) Politically, this may be our only common vote, but I'm proud to say that I'll be there with you, my friend. Unfortunately, I live in Kentucky, where the religious intolerance movement will carry the day - but I'll be proud to cancel out one of 'em along the way. :)

Actually, I don't listen to Limbaugh, and I'm a bit embarassed to say I don't know who Liddy is. I admire Coulter's fiestiness and her unwillingness to pull any punches, and I find her humorous at times, but I don't take her extremist positions very seriously. And I respect Colmes much more than Hannity--at least he is respectful to his guests and willing to admit it when his "side" is wrong. Hannity is just too arrogant (though to be fair I'm sure some of his behavior is for entertainment value--I have no idea what he's like in person).

Liddy is G. Gordon Liddy, who worked as a lawyer, then for the FBI, and then moved into the Nixon administration as a key part of the "Special Investigations Group" - the group that went on to conduct the break-in of the office of the psychiatrist that was treating Daniel Ellsberg at the Watergate complex in Washington, DC. He was convicted of a felony offense for his role in overseeing the breakin that led to Nixon's impeachment and resignation. He is a very unusual personality, to say the least.

Funny thing - I started listening to Limbaugh about 5 or 6 months ago - he is quite the entertainer. You mention the fact that Colmes will at least admit when his side is wrong, even though Hannity will not. That is the basis for the show. Hannity can, will, and does make some ridiculous statements that Colmes should call him on - but it never happens. Hannity has a very overpowering personality, to Colmes' type B. I have no problem with it - I just wish they would market the show for what it is.

Thanks,

NPR is reporting this morning that the last polls taken before the election indicate this one is too close to call. The poll results are within the margin of error. So, I think maybe this election is going to go to the courts. We might not know who won for some time.

I was thinking about that last week.
The huge amount of newly registered not being accounted by the polling.

Do you have a source that says the recent polls do account for them at a fair percentage?

I just thinks it`s pretty important.

Nixon was never impeached. ;)

I bought a USA Today that includes a USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll of "likely voters conducted in the past several days in the USA". Bush and Kerry are tied nationally, though most of the MidWest swing states are leaning towards Kerry. I don't think this poll includes military absentee ballots (which would be largely for Bush).

I stand corrected. I must apologize for my efforts at revisionist history. To be honest, I couldn't remember if he resigned before Congress impeached him or not, and I was to lazy to look it up. Again - my intention was not to deceive, only to inform you of Liddy's role in the history of American politics.

Thanks,

PS - you're a scalliwag, Spinkles - checking on me like that. :)

There is a very neat poll-averaging calculator at http://www.electoral-vote.com
He has a link to a Zogby poll of newly-registered cell-phone students with a large poll base (over 6000) that comes in at 55% Kerry, 40% Bush.
His calculator was calling Kerry 298, Bush 231 on the electoral college last I looked.

Spinks, you're on! I'll frubal you if Kerry wins, you frubal me if Bush wins. Agreed?
