I assume you mean "black men shouldn't be priests after all" given that they have the priesthood now, but it would be possible for the prophet to receive revelation on any of these matters, whether beneficial to the church or not. I think it would be a good idea to start a topic on the matter of revelation, in particular the official declarations of the church which stopped the practice of polygamy and extended the priesthood to all worthy males. I think I will start compiling some material.

No, I meant the one that Spencer Kimball got, in response to intense political pressure (and some tough losses by the BYU basketball team.)

Why don't you start it?

Also, your post is an either/or fallacy. Religious organizations can meddle in politics AND assist the needy. We can discuss more if someone starts a thread.

But of course, every dollar they spend for TV advertising in California is a dollar less to feed a hungry child in Ethiopia.

While I'm not a Mormon, I do have family and friends and feel you are unfair painting that picture. Though I do not share the same faith and politics they have done some outstanding humanitarian work which you should not ignore.

LDS Humanitarian Services

Humanitarian Activites

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints conducts humanitarian activities worldwide. From 1985 to 2008 Humanitarian Services provided more than $1.11 billion in total assistance to needy individuals in 167 countries.

In 1996 the Church organized Latter-day Saint Charities as a non-governmental organization to facilitate humanitarian activities in selected countries.

I'm not asking you to excuse what they did (I find it appalling), but I do ask you to be fair when you say things like you did.

Is it not true?

Oh - did you start a thread somewhere?

I started one on that subject. Even linked it in my last post on this thread. Please, everyone interested in discussing that topic, feel free to come over. I've been hoping to see you show up in particular.

re: Weddy. And another Christian flees the thread rather than confront the tough question. It wouldn't bother me except you know she's going to pop up and make the same argument, the one demolished by the question she won't answer. Which brings us back to the question: Stupid, mean, or just didn't stop to think?

Thanks. I didn't see it. I'll head there now.

As I said, fails the golden rule test.

1. I guess that's what I mean by moral kindergarten. We are all human, all seeking happiness and to avoid suffering, all worthy, and all deserving of compassion. If the sage comes upon a person beating a puppy, she feels compassion for the puppy and the person beating it.

2. Again, moral kindergarten. Do I really have to explain the difference between committed love between two adults and a murderer?

3. It appears that your opposition to civil rights for others stems from your limited ability to empathize with other human beings. I feel compassion for you.

4. Because something violates the odd purity taboos of your religion is not in any way the same thing as being immoral. Jews believe you violate God's law every time you eat a BLT, but do not try to restrict your right to do so. Your opposition to Gay sex is in the same category as kosher dietary rules--applies only to people who follow that belief system, not those who do not believe as you do. To try to impose your religious rules on others is un-American.

So, still don't want to answer my question, hey?

It will not let me frubal you :sorry1:

I'm going to feel soooooo.... sorry for those poor Christians when their rights get taken away and those awful awful Homosexuals are allowed to get married. Gosh, what is this world comming to, equality? We're falling apart at the seams here. No longer can out tyrranical stone aged mythology win over the injustice called freedom and equality. No longer can we use God's will to crush the rights of those silly minorities.

*cough*

I believe you are painting Christians with a broad brush while displaying the same intolerance you rail against. It is time for this nation to heal. The lack of respect from both sides of this issue will only drive a wedge between everyone.

There is suppose to be a separation between religion and politics. Most everyone needs a good dose of tolerance. Tolerance for Gays and tolerance for religion.

We are a nation of many diverse people. None of us should be trampled on.
