Questions about Islam

Which leads me to a question...my grandmother died on NY's Eve and was cremated at her request a week later. Tomorrow the actual funeral is taking place. In Islam, is cremation ok?

I hate to think about death but my grandmother's death got me to thinking about how Islam handles these things.

Creation is strictly forbidden in Islam, but I don't think cremated individuals necessarily go to hell.

Allah is Strict in Punishment, but Most Merciful..

The 'sharia law' is there to protect the state. If you don't threaten the state, you have nothing to worry about.

Everybody needs protection from the state, including non-Muslims .. the state must function, otherwise it ceases to exist. Those who are guilty of treason have to be dealt with, otherwise satan will have a field day!

It's no different in the west .. if the state's secrets are given to the enemy, they will be arrested and tried.

Uh, no. Apostasy is not a threat to a state, unless that state is theocratic and oppressive. Whatever you think of giving away state's secrets, it is not comparable to the kind of thought crime punished by Islamic fundamentalists.

Sorry about your grandmother Deidre, yes many are conditioned by their culture and beliefs within that culture. To your father you are going against the grain of belief and culture, this frightens those who are imprisoned by their own beliefs and culture. Most feel comfortable with the group mentality, be that religion, sports or whatever one may feel comfortable in. I feel we all must question our culture and beliefs over and over, until we cannot question anymore, this is intelligence, we are all born with this intelligence, and then we are conditioned by society, or parents, education and so on, we then become unintelligent. You yourself have questioned your beliefs that were handed to you by your parents, now your parents or friends need to show their intelligence, and let you be who you want to be.

I didn't say apostacy .. I'm referring to treason. Somebody who becomes a Muslim just to get information ie. a spy, and then 'changes sides again' :erm:

How would becoming a Muslim give anyone access to the equivalent of state secrets?

Islam last I recall does not permit cremation. But of course this is applicable only to Muslims and on top of this it was a bit of a pagan practice due to the fixation of fire overall.

You seem confused .. Go back and re-read my posts, and you might see what I'm talking about..

In the time of the Prophet, peace be with him, there was a lot of opposition/oppression .. the Muslims were forced to defend themselves. When a tribe/nation doesn't trust another, and you give assylum to your enemy, as they declare 'their Islam' , what happens? They become very close to your 'operation' .. They might be spies. If this proves to be the case .. ie. they suddenly disappear ???

Then he or she was never a true Muslim then. I've read different views about Sharia law and I wonder if It was meant mainly for the time period of the prophet, for a variety of reasons relevant for that time. Not meant to be a literal rule book for today. If taken out of context, it contradicts the true essence of Islam. This is my opinion.

So any Quaranic instructions on apostasy are inapplicable today?

I can't tell you how much your words mean to me right now. You say the best things at all the right times. You have a lot of compassion, I should have you call my dad! Lol :p

(((Thank you)))

My dad and I go round and round a lot but we are better. Should I convert to Islam, I hope he doesn't allow it to drive a wedge between us. But I have to follow my heart.

Yea this kind of stuff is legalistic to me but ...if that is the faith ...and I choose to follow Islam, I will accept it. Thanks Sha ...

It depends on the situation..
I live in the UK .. and everybody is free to choose whatever religion they wish, as long as it doesn't threaten the security of others. There is no problem with that.

However, if we were forced to go to war with another country, things might be different. There's already tension in our multicultural society for various reasons .. mainly political .. it's all part of the test of life.

Some countries are already in a state of war, and I'm not an expert on foreign affairs .. I don't travel as much as I'd like..
