rape justice?

Depends Upon My Mood..
If you think torture is OK, why does it bother you what Bundy did?

I think in thought some people think it sounds satisfying to quench revenge .I have had those thoughts. The "what I would like see happen to him or her".But I would like for the people who say that to stand and witness something like that in reality with a grin of satisfaction on their face.

If they did? I would assume they must be sociopaths themselves.

Well he was executed. I then assume the people who put him to death are psychopaths?

Carrying out a lawful order that was handed down after due process of law is very different from pursuing the man out of desire for revenge.

First of all I have mixed emotions about the death penalty .But definateley no I do not think the death penalty /executing someone humanely is the work of a psychopath.I don't think that its torture #1 .#2 most that I know aren't taking pleasure or glee or getting turned on over the process .#3 as Redneck pointed out its a legal killing after due process. Not out of a crazed desire to hurt or torture anyone for revenge.

It does bother me. Does it not you?

Of course. That's why I don't want to torture or kill prisoners. If you want to torture and kill somebody or other, whatever your rationale, then obviously it doesn't bother you as much, right? So why does what Bundy did bother you? I'm sure he had his reasons too.

while speaking with friends we began talking about prison reform. Several comments were made by my friends.

The first was questioning why more of his tax dollars should go to help people who have screwed up. He was not saying he should pay less taxes but felt that enough is already spent on prisons and were any extra security measures put in place the funding would need to come from the existing funds.

Another friend believed that child rapists especially should be subject to a regular raping by fellow inmates.

Your thoughts?

In many respects, a society is only as moral as it treats the most vulnerable people in it.

I do not want to torture people. I am not evil. Jesus Christ I hope no one thinks that. My maternal Grandfather met Ted Bundy once. I know he had his reasons. I read up all about him back in my teen years. It does not make it justifiable though. He is still a evil guy. A interesting person to studied too.

But weren't you saying Bundy should be raped and killed? Rape is torture, isn't it?

I completely disagree that child rapists or any other rapist should be subjected to raping by inmates. Two rights do not make a wrong and two wrongs do not make a right. In addition, you should never do evil to bring about good so if you're allowing the inmates to rape the child rapist/rapist in order to change the child rapist/rapist then that is not right. I also believe that time spent in prison should be focused on rehabilitating and reforming the inmate rather than punishment.

Ted Bundy deserved to die for his crimes. You do not agree? I guess I should take back what I said about the torture thing. I used to think Bundy was a rebel back in my teen years so believe me I have matured since then.

Alexis de Tocqueville, writing in the 1830s, observed that American culture of that time had reduced the punishments for nearly all crimes (when compared to European punishments for crimes) with the noteworthy exception of punishments for rape. Contrary to the American tendency to reduce punishments, Tocqueville noticed that Americans punished rape more severely than Europeans.

He theorized that the reason Americans punished rape more severely than Europeans was because Europeans of the time saw the crime as victimizing the woman's family honor, while American's saw the crime as depriving the woman of her liberty to go where she wanted and do what she wanted to do.

That was America in the 1830s, and it is surely not as true of America today as it might have been back then.

Before I was pro death penalty, but as I ve heard said before, false convictions do occur
What about in cases where the evidence is overwhelming that the defendant is guilty. Something like the shooting in Aurora Colorado?

Murderers and rapist (this includes pedophiles) should receive the death penalty. Of course this is after all legal proceedings have been exhausted (appeals etc), and there is no doubt they are guilty. Prisoners that become murderers/rapist inside of prison should be held to the same standard. Just because they rape or killed another "bad guy" does not make it o.k.

How should the death penalty be applied? In its current implementation, the penalty is prohibitively expensive. It is cheaper to keep an inmate in prison for life than to kill him. Should the death penalty be carried out in a different fashion?

I would like to see some numbers on that. Because the last time I checked (2-3 years ago) it cost on average $30,000 per year/per prisoner to keep someone incarcerated. I do not even know a rough estimate on current cost of implementing death penalties, but it seems like if a average life sentence of 20-40 years (assuming the age of the prisoner being 20-40 years old, most people die naturally between 60-80) it should be cheaper than the $600,000-$1.2 million cost of keeping that one prisoner locked up for all that time. Although cost should not be an issue. The cost of preventing a lot of people from being murdered/raped/molested whether out in society or prison is priceless

Now granted our legal system is not perfect and false convictions do occur to the innocent, and guilty people walk away free due to technicalities or loop holes. Perhaps we need to take a long hard look at the legal system and revamp it. But I just do not see it becoming much better and certainly not fool proof. There will always be mistakes, it sucks, but just something we have to deal with at least for the time being.

Namaste,

So, what is the consensus, fellas? If someone answers, I will give them a frubal.

To me it appears the majority of posters in this thread disagree with the idea of "rape justice".
