Religion the downfall of mankind...

but people STILL blindly follow and worship GOD.

we shall create man in our image.

This sentence doesn't make sense if you believe in a 1 God theory like the church claims.

The story of Adam and Eve MUST involve INCEST, right?

They teach our children about Noah's Ark in Sunday School but WE ALL know this is IMPOSSIBLE.

How's come they don't teach our kids who attend Sunday School about the "Inquisition?" Hmm?

"Thou shall not steal"...so if i steal a .2 cent piece of gum and don't ask for forgiveness I will burn in hell for all of eternity?

So if GOD is ALL KNOWING and he is incarnate in Jesus Christ wouldn't he have already known the Romans were going to crucify him? So whats the point?

If there is ONE omnipotent GOD why all the different religions?

How's come if I tell someone I saw ANGELS there is no problem with that and they would believe but if I told the same person I saw an ALIEN they would laugh hysterically and call me delusional when there is 1000% times more proof of the latter?

When they talk of the "Heavens" aren't they not referring to "Outer Space?"

They cant expect us to believe that angels and GOD live in the clouds, right?

I have many many more questions in the future.

I know most answers to my question will be, "You just have to have Faith!" I want more than that I want hard scientific PROOF that the things they preach in the Bible and ARE TEACHING OUR CHILDREN are true. Thats all.

I want my children to be taught the TRUTH and by brainwashing them with outlandish stories in the Bible I feel this a HUGE discredit to our educational system if we expect to advance and become a highly intelligent race of human beings.

Don't make your children go to church...if they want to go once they get old enough to think for themselves then o.k. but PLEASE don't brainwash innocent children. Let them decide on their own. :run:

Very good point. its interesting to see children and adults being tought the 'benefits' of religion, usually spiritual fantasies such as a blissful eternity, and keep them in complete ignorance about the genocides, homophobia, and misogyny that religion has enforced on mankind.
further more, these spiritual fantasies distract hard working citizens from ever facing the same problems (homophobia, oppression, etc.)

1) There's more to religion than Christianity.

2) Indoctrination is not brainwashing, and such hyperbole just makes you look hysterical.

They can also serve a vehicle to focus on said issues. Only yesterday I was listening to a Bishop offering his support for gay clergy.

When people are tought concepts such are punishment and reward, or karma, their interest in helping out their citizens comes from a very distrubing place.

Too little too late. Christianity has completely alienated homoerotica for 2000 years. a gay man who joins the church is signing his own doom.

My religion seems pretty mainstream to me yet punishment and reward aren't part of it. So this isn't really relevant.

How is a gay bishop/clergyman/adherent signing his doom in a religion that accepts and embraces his sexuality?

Its absolutely relevant because this is what we are dicsussing, further more you have brought up the church, and punishment and reward is an absolute essential doctrine of the church.
either you are following your own religion, or you have not studied Christianity in depth to be a 'decent believer'.

It is a religion which has preached for centuries that homosexuality is punished by eternal damnation.
the fact that some Christian leaders try to soften Christian dogma in order to give good publicity to Christianity in the face of the modern world cannot change centuries of church oppression against these human beings.

If the kid is not old enough to comprehend religion then indoctrination is brainwashing, and I know this from experience.

I could not disagree more strongly. Bishop Spong " We therefore must jettison from further consideration of life after death all concepts of reward and punishment, dismissing them as crude, debilitating, hostile and, finally, unbelievable." p114 Eternal Life: A new vision

What is a decent believer in the eyes of one who thinks religion foolish?

That is so sweeping as to be meaningless. The Anglican church today accepts and indeed embraces homosexuality. If you wish to discuss 17th century Anglican beliefs you need to talk to someone from the 17th century.

My children will be tought Darwin, not singing 'thanks for not making me as the other nations' with their family.

Ah, a fine distinction. Your beliefs are teaching and others are indoctrination :areyoucra
'thanks for not making me as the religious' is a sweeter tune?

Mine were taught Darwin as well, and one of my favorite songs is Od Yavo Shalom Aleinu.
Well im not gonna be the one who's gonna smash your hopes, I'll just remind you that Israelis are fighting for their lives as we speak, so I wouldnt count on that, nor would I teach young Israelis who join the army to expect it.

Darwin was a scientist, he studied life forms, he also fought Christian indoctrination with impunity. thank Allah for that too, because if he hadnt we'd all still think we originated in a mesopotamian garden of eden.

Darwin was outstanding. No doubt. That's not the point.
