Republican economic policies working

Well first off, you're strawmanning the GND.
Second, even if oil was clean, there's not very much of it left. It will last a few decades, it won't last a few centuries.
Third, coal is dirty. It pollutes the air. It exacerbates climate change.

We should move all of our energy R&D dollars into renewable and/or clean energies. Fusion for example. We should stop all the billions of dollars of subsidies we are giving to the fossil fuel industry, and use all those monies to accelerate clean / renewable energy research.
In the early seventies, the propaganda was that oil would be exhausted in ten years. That was 50 years ago.

So I don´t pay much attention to those saying the sky is falling.

Here is the deal on climate change, the climate is cyclical and is always changing, I am not convinced of the extent human activity since the industrial revolution contributes to it.

50 or so Time magazine had a cover touting an article on how to survive the coming ice age, scientific predictions have not proven to be that accurate.

Even if human activity contributes to it, why should the US bankrupt itself trying to mitigate carbon emissions when the rest of the world does nothing, like now ?
Clean energy is very expensive. I converted my home to solar energy, it powers everything. I will not live long enough to see enough savings in electrical bills to pay for the system.

I bought it solely to increase the value of my home.

Tell me about those subsidies for the oil companies.

For the American consumer oil is cheap, whether it be gasoline, diesel or in the form for generating electricity.

When technology reaches the point where it is economically feasible to use renewable or clean energy, the market will deal with the problem, government can only screw it up.

Remember all the money obama shelled out to clean energy companies that went bust ?

They could not compete in the market.

Well @shmogie - I disagree with basically everything you said in post #61. I hope for future generations you're correct and I'm wrong, but I don't think it's gonna play out that way. I think future generations are going to - rightly - vilify the kind of excuses you just trotted out.
