RF annoyances...

Apex

Somewhere Around Nothing
1. People who do not use the quote feature.
2. Posts that more resemble a rainbow than anything else.
3. Excessive use of the font size feature.

I generally ignore posts that match any of the above.

OK OK Maybe I'm not really as annoying as all that.

Sorry Phil. We know you like to be the best at everything.

You don't give up now!
I just KNOW that you CAN be the most annoying if you try real hard.

The 3 things that I find most annoying on RF are...

1. when religious posters pop into a thread just to tell you what god wants,
(usually with a million verses)
having absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the actual OP topic,
and adding nothing of value to the concept being discussed.

2. when athiest posters pop into threads just to tell you there is no such thing as god...
having absolutely nothing to do specifically with the topic at hand in any meaningful way,
and adding nothing of real value to the concept being discussed.

and

3. when certain posters just cannot wrap their mind around the idea
that there are RADICALLY different gOd concepts...
and thus respond to every mention of "god" with the same worn out "sky daddy" retorts...
without even bothering to consider what alternative theists might be about.
(free of their own internal "sky daddy" dialogue).

What do you find most annoying?
All of the above, plus...

4. Intentional Ignorance

The latter two are excellent ways to make sure I don't read a post.

What I wonder is why some people don't use the quote feature. If you are one of those people and just don't use it because you don't know how, please do us all a favor and PM someone asking how to do it. It makes reading your posts so much easier.

I offered a tutorial and was told to ignore the posts in question. I can only assume it's because the poster realized he was losing the debate.

Spammers. Even (maybe especially) when they're spamming the DIR forum of a religion that I find troublesome.

What really annoys me right now is that I will go to some effort to create a new, interesting and challenging thread, because I want to do my part to make RF an interesting place to debate and discuss. It isn't a regurgitation of a topic that is always repeated every week on here (such as I can't reconcile evolution and the Bible, I love homosexuals but I'm going to persecute them anyway, the Bible is wrong when I read it literally, I'm an imbecile but think I'm better than everyone else, God shares my prejudices, etc). It's a topic that should be relevant to quite a few posters, and should be interesting enough to get other posters conversing. I do some research, make the effort to word my OP so it's simple to read yet asks the question that I think is interesting, and keep the topic as unambiguous so everyone knows what question I am asking.

My topic gets twenty replies, sinks, and does not resurface again.

I put this to the collective intellect of RF - what am I doing wrong? Apart from not doing joke threads, I mean.

I don't like it when people are belittled because they do not a better than average understanding of certain areas. I see this a lot when it comes to debates that involve specific scientific fields as well philosophy. Somebody will make a a statement in a thread that commands a certain amount of scientific knowledge but then somebody will counter with a , "well, if you knew anything about the 3rd Law of Thermodynamics or the Law of Entropy then you'd know that what you said was completely off base. You apparently spend more time reading your religious books and not staying up to speed on the most recent literature that's being published on astrophyisics."

I exaggerate a bit but I just want to say, well, no duh. Does the average person get back from their full time job and juggle family life and then take time to read up on the newest study of so-and-so before they decide to participate in a thread that they just might learn something from? I suppose I wish people would give others the benefit of the doubt and realize that they probably are ignorant on many things but those more knowledgeable should show a sense of humility correct the person where they are wrong before resorting to judgment. There are a few of those people off the top of my head I can name and I'm particularly thankful that they take the time to contribute.
