As an atheist, no, I do not view these sexual acts between two consenting adults as disordered or wrong.

I will confess that there was a time in my youth I was attracted to s&m. I was able to change and reorient my sexuality through prayer, meditation, and learning empathy and compassion...

Actually, I don't believe I reoriented anything, I believe I was delivered of this Vice. Thank God!

No. While I don't care for such activities and find them a complete turn-off, I don't see a problem with others enjoying them if they do.

I notice that you lump together some things that are relatively mild (spanking and hot wax) with much more dangerous activities (asphyxiation and blood play). Even in the BDSM communities, the latter are considered 'edge play' and are done *only* with partners you entirely trust, at least by those who do these things responsibly.

Speaking as a total sexual masochist (I mean, 90% or more of my fantasies are highly masochistic, blood, rape etc), I find it all completely normal providing it is all consensual. There are lots of us out there but still some feel afraid to say so openly.

I remember having masochistic daydreams etc. from being about 5. Turned sexual at 12 (immediately with blood, rape etc.) Other memories from before that time (age 5) are largely forgotten. I fully believe I was born this way.

So long as every precaution is taken to not seriously injure and rules of consent are strictly followed I have no problem with it. And from my understanding the S&M community promotes a level of open communication that frankly I wish more couples saught.

One reason I find finding a partner so difficult. Trust trust trust. Need buckets of it with this type of relationship.

As a sado-masochistic atheist, it does strike me as "odd" and pretty "dark" but I've found it's healthier to accept that it is part of who I am even if I seek to better understand and perhaps change it. I don't think of it as an "orientation" but it does go pretty deep into the psychology of who we are and the roles we feel comfortable playing in a relationship. As a route to self-knowledge it is revealing and does make it easier to deal with the hidden and repressed aspects of who we are.

One thing studies have noted is that men tend to be overall more inclined towards a sexual 'fetish' than women. So women are more likely to be sexually 'vanilla' while men are more likely to be sadistic or masochistic. Further, masochism is, according to more studies, more common. So for girls like me finding a sadistic male parter is difficult, because they tend to be masochists like me! Or they can switch and go from sadist to masochist, which leaves me cold because I am an exclusive masochist. Annoying!

I would agree to a point. To borrow from your comment about Rap music on another thread. Disorderly
Sadism = Forcing someone to listen to Rap. Disorderly Masochism = Forcing yourself to listen to Rap. If this thread is meant to be serious then I humbly apologize.
