Same-sex marriage races ahead

Incidentally, by wanting the word 'marriage', it's backfiring on gay couples because it makes it look like they just want to "play at" being married.
Also, a lot of straights don't like the idea of them hijacking the word "marriage".
So a better idea would be to keep the term "civil union", but tighten up the small print to give gay couples exactly the same legal rights and status as male/female married couples..:)

Funny, most "straights" I know support gay marriage.

And I hear some gay couples want to have a proper marriage ceremony in churches, how sweet..:)
Half the clergy are gay anyway so it'd go like this-
VICAR- "Charles and Timmy, I now pronounce you man and wife"
CHARLES- "May I kiss my bride?"
VICAR- "Me first"..:)

The christians I know would be horrified at the stuff you have said here, but I guess your point is to get attnetion by spitting out stupidity.

Perhaps gays think they'll get an easy ride when Islam takes over, but I very much doubt it..:)
For example muslim vigilante patrols hassle gays and put up posters like these in muslim areas of Brit cities-

Yes because we all know that gays love islam....where do you get this stuff from? Seriously?

You need a church now to have a 'proper marriage'?
Kinda a quaint and somewhat self-serving theory ya got there.

Absolutely. Myself included. And not only do I support gay marriage, I am passionate about it - it is a question of basic human rights and equality.

If the members of various Churches do not like it, then they are free to follow their beliefs. But that should not have any influence on what people who are not a member of their Church can or can not do.

Many live in the US, a heavily armed civilian population who cares less for radicalized Islam than it does for gays. A take over ain't happening here any time soon. I don't know about the more laid back and unarmed in Europe. I wish them all well.

Christians like you and Brit Muslims like that are making me appreciate my redneck little corner of the world.

Why would you allow a "sharia controlled zone"? If British law is unsuitable for the residents what is the point of it?

I suspect that these laws are an addition on top of British Law. Each of the listed items are legal, at least to a limited degree.
So a set of residents are deciding that British Law doesn't go far enough, and are claiming the right to append additional 'laws' on top.

Why do Brits allow people to make up laws like that?
Could another "set of residents" append their local laws to prohibit Islam? Or homosex, or female drivers?

The cult of multiculturalism and political correctness stifles objections. It's a big mess.

The cult of multiculturalism?

Yeah, the idea that you can throw people of wildly different cultures together and expect them all to somehow magically get along. Having immigrants come over from cultures that are radically different from the West, with values that are opposed to Western values, and not expect them to assimilate at all. Instead, kowtow to them and decry and shut down the objections of the natural born citizenry, or even older generations of immigrants, as "racism" or "xenophobia".

One should keep in mind that "the West" is hardly homogeneous, either. It is difficult enough to have an elected official win 55% of the vote. There is no mystical power uniting people.

I have never met or even heard of anyone who has such an opinion, but it is a big world out there.

There are probably over a dozen people who think so, despite it being absurd, not making sense and being unconsiderate to boot. But people can hold strange opinions and beliefs, that much is certain.

Why anyone should care, though, is an important question to consider.

Also, a lot of straights don't like the idea of them hijacking the word "marriage".

"Hijacking"?

Also, define "a lot". 10%? 5%? 1% of "straights"?

And again, why would it even matter? A lot of people don't like heavy metal, either. What do you expect to happen as a consequence?

Uh, no. That would be a very retarded and heartless idea.

Yes, but there are general shared values such as democracy (or at least in theory), freedom of expression (although that is somewhat limited by things like hate speech and Holocaust denial laws in some areas), civil liberties, protection of women and minorities, etc.

And attempting to keep people segregated would be helpful? Isn't that the opposite of what we want?
