SCIENCE: Death Anxiety Likely Cause of Belief in Intelligent Design

that was quite intuitive.

The origins of religious belief

fear of death. remove the promise of immortality from any religious belief and it will lose the most of its charisma, especiallly the abrahamic ones.

This is over simplified, though, to the point of not answering the question in the OP: Why should we fear death? And how, when we fear death, does that lead to a magical man behind the scenes saving us?

I realize it's a MUCH large discussion, but I think that's what this thread is asking for.

Please, now you are just grasping at straws. I gave you your stats. Why would atheists do something so stupid and dishonest as claiming that they "found God"? I have only seen Christians do that, and yes, I do know some Christians that went to prison.

ETA: And I am done. If you won't accept the statistics that you demanded there is no point in supplying you with them.

I can go on line and show sites that claim earth is flat, the Easter bunny and superman are real. Does that make it true? You're gullible.

Lol. Yeah most gang members do and its Christian gangs that run rampant in prison (excuse the sarcasm).

What makes you think that gang members can't be Christians? Christians have done all sorts of evil things in the past. Please, now you are guilty of a No True Scotsman Fallacy.

I could make a claim that no gang members would be atheists. It would be just as valid as yours. People are experts at compartmentalizing ideas. They separate their Christian beliefs from the actions that go against it.

So what? I found valid sources. You lost. That is all. You simply deny that which you can't handle.

In your mind everyone loses against you which brings me back to this;
"NOMB but what kind of work you do and what degrees do you possess? You seem to think you know the bible better than others, know science better than others, can debate better than others, in general you think you are above most everyone on every thing. Thanks in advance."

Nope, you lost the ability to ask that question a long time ago.

Try again.

It's easy to SAY that "God could easily do this or that," but it's not easy to demonstrate that God could have done anything differently at all without violating his omnibenevolence, omniscience, or omnipotence. From our almost infinitesimally limited perspective, it's preposterous to claim that the universe could be better if only this thing or that thing were different--we have no way of knowing what the repercussions of changing any one little thing would be. A butterfly flapping its wings in Hong Kong, you know... So if anything were changed, this would no longer be the best of all possible universes, and God would have given up his omnibenevolence by creating anything less than the best of all possible universes.

Anyway, ironically, I kind of look at this life in the physical universe as that "test chamber"--the simulator where we learn what good and evil are for just a few moments, so that we can enjoy the saturation of goodness and complete absence of evil for the much grander scheme of eternity. Having a simulator within the simulator would be kind of redundant.
Well, then be honest and say you don't know of any good justification for your claim that this is the best of all worlds. Don't make up stuff that can so easily be refuted.

I never claimed no gang members are christian. Making false claims against another poster is breaking the rules. Tread carefully.

You implied it. If not why did you even bring that up? By the way, most gang members probably are Christians simply because most people in the U.S. are Christians.

No need to try again. I'm about done with you. Your post show you are more trolling than anything.
Now you just broke the rules. You can't claim that others are trolling. And no, I am not. I supported my claims. You could not deal with the evidence.

It appears that you do not know what a troll is. Trolls, like many creationists here, do not support their claims. By the way, one should never conflate creationists with Christians. I would never insult the religion in that way.

I never implied anything. You made another blind assertion and claim. And there we have it! You are right and even admit "most people" in the US are christian and that is a big reason no matter what is done it always looks like more christians do it than atheists. Thanks for confirming that.

I can claim it and report it .

Cause and effect.....

the effect is all around you
and your portion allows you to realize.....you are part of this creation
(you are not your own handiwork)
As a reply, I gotta say that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Once again, yes you did. Otherwise bringing them up was pointless.

You can report it, but that is clearly not the case. Claiming it is another matter. I could "claim" all sorts of things about you, but that would clearly be breaking the rules. Just as you did.

By the way we are far off from the OP here. Let's get back on track. Why do you think that some believe in the failed claims of Intelligent Design?

Faith. Like it or not the faith people have is stronger than anything you or I can present. Take a pick axe to Mt Everest and you will make it a field before you break the faith people hold.
