Science IS religion

So non-overlapping magisteria, then? Science gives us actual knowledge, while religion gives us meaning, values and purpose?
They strike me as two completely independent functions, thus, "non-overlapping."

Science is not religion. QED
Isn't the non-overlapping magisteria a concept of Gould?

I do not consider 'producing some same enzymes' a common biological trait though...
...then what? I see no point in further discussion if you are basing your argument on such obtuse and wilful blindness. I am trying to help you to see that there are really, really sound reasons for accepting that evolution and shared biological heredity (between species) are inescapable facts of reality - if all you do in response is cover your eyes and stick your fingers in your ears I can't help you.

Having read the other forum he inhabits, he actually only uses the internet for one purpose: Demanding us to repent. That's really all this is. The debate and discussion are a facade. I think he's actually crazy.

Is there something wrong with accepting bugs as kin?
As a foolish religious belief..or actual knowledge and science!?
Does ickyness really promote your case?
God is beauty and perfection and order etc. Ickyness and confused degrading of His great creation is a fingerprint of dark religion.
Worshiping? How are godless evolutionists worshiping anything.

"The Merriam Webster definition of “worship” is “extravagant respect or admiration for or devotion to an object or person of esteem.” The thesaurus lists the following as words that are closely related:

  • adoration
  • glorification
  • reverence
  • romanticization
  • affection
  • fondness
  • love
  • appreciation
  • esteem
  • regard
  • respect
  • appreciation"

All these are found in people worshiping science! Basically worship is anything you put before God.

We believe because there is overwhelming supporting evidence from numerous independent disciplines, and, of course, because there is no other explanation anywhere.

Name any supporting evidence for your religious fable. Ha. There is NONE at all.

I am not the one needing help here. Citing some chemical reactions in a worm that have some similarity to reactions other living beings produce is simply not impressive or evidence we all came from the same mom! Ridiculous.

Look at the reasons people claim a first life form and a hot soup singularity and you will see a balloon pregnant with belief piled on belief on top of religiously believed myth and fable etc.
I see evidenced based belief, but don't see any underlying religion.

Replace "godless evilution" with "the bible" and "anything so called science wants to shovel out" to "anything the bible wants to shovel out" and you'd be describing yourself.
My point exactly! We all have beliefs. Science is religion.
The difference is, you're openly claiming that you're right and mocking everyone else.
I find the claims that your kin are bugs and that all galaxies sprang from a little hot soup to be worthy of higher mockery. Now if you pleeaded sensitivity because of religion..that you do not like your religion made fun of...fine. We could be tender with you! When the religion is offered as science, it merits a closer look! I don't take it personally, I deal with the issues and claims. Some claims require exposing in a way that involves some comedy.

So it really looks like one really angry little piece of excrement being angry at clouds.

We get it. You may be starting to realize your region is defeated and exposed and are getting angry. That is normal.[/QUOTE]

Like, you do realize that every single individual living thing that has ever existed started out as just an inert collection of chemicals, right?
No. I realize you have a fantasy you can't begin to support but believe real hard. Religion!
Why is it easy for you to accept a human baby being formed from inert chemicals over just nine months, but find it impossible to believe inert chemicals can form much, much simpler forms of life over a period of millions of years?
If a blob of chemicals popped out of mom rather than a wonderful, fully formed, unique personality and person, well you might have a weak point.

A rather silly one in the context of this discussion if you think about it...take this thread for example...religion says that God created everything on earth (and then some) in six days about 6000 years ago...that is a religious idea and it is simply flat out wrong - it has no "magisterium" - it offers no useful teaching to anyone that could possibly inform their morality, values or genuine understanding or appreciation of their place in the world in any positive or beneficial way whatsoever. It is just rubbish. There are no two 'non-overlapping magisterial' ways about this - science is (more or less) right and getting righter and righter as it refines our understanding by observation and religion is just wrong as it continues stubbornly to reject any evidence, no matter how glaringly obvious, that contradicts its woefully inaccurate perception of reality.

...Not in any way. I am pointing out that so called science is inspired by the ol deceiver that was here deceiving Eve in the garden. So called science casts a covering on the truth and leaves you in darkness and confusion and doubting God.
So you're a True Believer and no amount of contradictory evidence will sway you. Any evidence can just conveniently be blamed on "the deceiver" and dismissed without consideration.
So why are you posting here?
I am not the one needing help here. Citing some chemical reactions in a worm that have some similarity to reactions other living beings produce is simply not impressive or evidence we all came from the same mom! Ridiculous.
Yet intelligent people who understand the evidence do not find it ridiculous. In fact, I'd say the more expertise they have in the field the stronger their belief.
Your personal incredulity speaks more to your ignorance of the evidence and lack of analytic skill than it does to the credibility of the claim.

Yes yes, you believe that. But really you haven't shown THAT. You've shown yourself to be a very misguided person though. Especially regarding your own abilities.

I find the claims that your kin are bugs and that all galaxies sprang from a little hot soup to be worthy of higher mockery.

Yes yes, i get that. But you're quite mistaken. And you should probably take your medication.

Now if you pleeaded sensitivity because of religion..that you do not like your religion made fun of...fine.We could be tender with you! We? You have an imaginary friend now?

This isn't really all that funny anymore. I'm worried about you.

We get it. You may be starting to realize your region is defeated and exposed and are getting angry. That is normal.

I'm actually starting to realize how deep your mental issues really are and am getting slightly worried. This is definitely not normal.

I'm not defending any religion, no need to. I'm not insecure like you.
I am secure enough to admit I have beliefs. Science just commits fraud and passes them off as fact!

But i am a Buddhist.
OK, so do you folks believe in spirits?

"The beliefs and premises and methods of science are actually well known"

Yes. Yes they are. But not to you... So why bring attention to the fact?
Well, to challenge people who actually may know what they are talking about to try and post some aspect of their methods and premises that they think are NOT well known. Then defend them.

Ohhh, so it's exactly like i told you, except now there's "the devil" doing it. Newsflash: The devil only exists in your religious dogma. I don't believe in any devils.
Great. So whatever you believe in exists..or not. Ha.
Here's the thing, i'm never going to convince you to be a rational person.
Not without the ability to know what rational means.

No, i think you've only convinced me that you commit frauds and pass them off as fact.

OK, so do you folks believe in spirits?

I don't. I've never seen any sort of evidence for it.

Well, to challenge people who actually may know what they are talking about to try and post some aspect of their methods and premises that they think are NOT well known. Then defend them.

The scientific method doesn't seem to be as well known as it should be.

Great. So whatever you believe in exists..or not. Ha.

Buddhists make zero claims regarding the existence or non-existence of any thing. Belief would amount to wishful thinking in this context.

Not without the ability to know what rational means.

Yes, but i do have that ability.

Then post the evidence.

You just keep calling evidence "spam" without even looking at it. So, tell us exactly what kind of "evidence" are you actually looking forward to? Because it really looks like you're not accepting anything.
