From a New York Times News Alert:

Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, a son of one of
the most storied families in American politics, a man who
knew triumph and tragedy in near-equal measure and who will
be remembered as one of the most effective lawmakers in the
history of the Senate, died late Tuesday night. He was 77.

Human loss is human loss. From a Christian perspective we are all sinners, so Kathryn it sounds like you might be casting the first stone.
I am sure someone that loves him is hurting today.

Thanks for sharing Sunstone...

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Hey, I didn't condemn the man to Hell - that's not my call. And I didn't say that I wasn't sorry for anyone in his family who is sad - but that wasn't the point of my post.

Personally, I found much about the man to be repulsive - and personally I am not saddened by his death one bit.

Why pretend otherwise?

Besides that, expressing my opinion on a Religious Debate Forum isn't like I got up on CNN and dissed the man and his family. I wouldn't do that - not because I respect what HE stood for - but because I wouldn't want to offend his family.

If any Kennedy family members are reading this - I apologize for expressing my general dislike for Ted.

To G-d we belong and to G-d we return. You'll be missed, Ted, especially now.

I'm about as sad for him as I was when I heard Mao Tse Tung died. Or Tammy Faye Bakker (she IS dead, right?).

Good to see class and basic decency are still alive and well.

Mao slept with a different prostitute every night and ordered the death of students via tanks....

Did Ted kennedy have anythign to do with the death of whores by tank?

Sad day indeed.

Kennedy's contributions to domestic civil rights issues, education and health care reform were unparalleled. I applaud him for his opposition to the Iraq war, his emphatic support for basic human rights, particularly expressed in his activism for refugees from Ethiopia, Vietnam and Iraq- not to ignore his fight against political oppression in S. Africa, Chile, Pakistan, and so on.

From his efforts to increasing medical care for civilians injured by Americans in the Vietnam war, going back to '68 with his outspoken condemnation of U.S. indifference to the starvation in Biafra, and his contributions in seeking peace for "the troubles" in Ireland- all unparalleled acts for a senator. And then there's Kennedy's unfairly ignored contributions in opening up the Soviet union by visiting and speaking with Brezhnev and Gorbachev. Ironic trhat a charismatic war criminal like Reagan is given the lion's share of credit for the Soviet Union's dissolution.

A great senator whose contributions to making the U.S. a better place were exceptional.

I'll say it for Kathryn, he killed Mary Jo Kopechne and got away with it.

It's just not sporting to speak ill of the dead when they're in no condition to defend themselves

Anyways, I'm sure the great patriots at FreeRepublic are mourni-
The legacy of Edward Kennedy will be the 1965 Immigration Reform Act. This is the most substantial piece of legislation in the history of the United States. It was bigger than the Emancipation Proclamation. It was more substantial than the New Deal or any other legislation.

In short the 1965 Immigration Reform Act was the WORST thing that EVER happened to the United States. It was worst than the Civil War. It was worse than the Great Depression or any economic turmoil. It was worse than any of the Wars we've been in.

It was worse because it changed the United States in a way in which no war could ever change. All the changes have been for the worse in my opinion and in the opinion of every person I know who remembers America before 1965 or there abouts.

No the legacy of Ted Kennedy will that more than any other person he was the person who contributed most to turning the United States into a 3rd World Country. Without the 1965 Act, Obama would never have been elected president. Kennedy (and those who voted for him) can rot for all I care.
oh.:thud:

Violet.
I no longer follow politics and have no personal feelings for the man one way or the other.
Like most people, he most likely did many things I would have respected and agreed with,
and many things to the contrary.

Somehow it brings to rise in me a deep feeling of our mortality though.
Even the famous, and the important of the world,
those without need of money, & born into prominant family name... cannot escape death from this world.
I guess that's why it makes me feel sad inside.

It's not like I didn't KNOW this already, of course.
But these are the feelings his death gives rise to in me, today.
