Sex and Religion

You think that Adults routinely:

  • DO confuse sex and love, and your religion opposes sex outside of marriage.

  • DO NOT confuse sex and love, and your religion opposes sex outside of marriage.

  • DO confuse sex and love, and my religion does NOT opposes sex outside of marriage.

  • DO NOT confuse sex and love, and my religion does NOT opposes sex outside of marriage.

I agree, and add that sex without romantic love is pretty bad.

I wouldn't go that far, romantic love can add an extra dimension but sex without love can be pretty awesome. (It can sometimes be pretty awesome though)

I guess it depends on the participants

I wouldn't know since I never had sex without love.
I have only ever had sex with one man, my late husband.
No one is telling you that you have to go about your sex life in any other manner. Nor is anyone telling you that you ought to do things differently..

Thanks, but I did not think they were telling me that I ought to do things differently.

How would you know?
No, I would not know what sex without romantic love is like since I never had it.
When I said it is 'pretty bad' I did not mean bad in the sense that you are probably thinking.
I did not mean it is not physically enjoyable. I meant I think it is 'pretty bad' to have sex without romantic love.
Mind you, that is not a judgment on anyone who engages in that kind of sex. Different strokes for different folks.

Pretty bad in what way?

Pretty bad because it is sex just for the sake of physical pleasure and nothing more. I cannot even imagine having sex solely for that resason since I believe sex is a sacred bond between two people who love each other, but different strokes for different folks.

Sex without romantic love is not necessarily just for the sake of physical pleasure. I usually choose partners who are friendly, playful, adventurous and clever.

But even it it was simply for the sake of physical pleasure, what would be pretty bad about that?

Thanks for widening my horizons.

It is only pretty bad in my opinion, an opinion I held long before I ever had a religion or a belief in God.
I do not believe in having sex even in wedlock just for physical pleasure. If there is no love, I do not want sex.

Are you making a distinction between believe in and want? I believe in eating a triple scoop bana split, but I don't want one. And haven't since my 20s.

Good point.

It is not against my beliefs to have sex just for pleasure as long as it is wedlock.

My "rule of thumb" is who am I to get involved over a consensual decision of adults to have sex? Should I sneak into the bedroom and break it up?
