Sign at George Floyd Square gives list of special orders for white visitors

Thief

Rogue Theologian
Thank you for the perfect illustration of the reason for the sign.
I get along with blacks just fine
I work with them
grew up in a housing project of a midsized city

I know the drill

the sign in question smacks of labeling
it is racially profiling

The sign bespeaks racism.
Imagine the whites putting up a sign with special rules for blacks.
Would that seem racist or productive?
Did not america try that in the 50s and 60s ? no it does not work in a good manner, but what should the Black people do? just accept how they are being treated? Not that it is any of my business what Americans do

Do you think putting up a racist sign treating whites as
clueless dolts will improve treatment of blacks?
BTW, racially discriminatory signs from the Jim Crow era
were also racist & offensive. Not a thing we should revive.

No of course it does not help, but i still understand why they do put up a sign asking for respect on that area

Well, in the case of how they're treated by the police departments, that's an issue which all of society can get behind, at least as far as reining in the police, making them more accountable, demanding transparency in law enforcement. That's an issue for the voters and the politicians they elect to government. To purposely take the focus off of the police and put it on "white people" as a generalized group only serves to confuse the issue and distract the public from any real proposals for change.

As you mention regarding the 50s and 60s, this has been an ongoing issue. To what would you attribute the lack of any real genuine progress when it comes to systemic racism and the abuses by government and the police?

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
You guys already tried that in the 50s and 60s didnt you? now white people know how the black people felt that time
So this only encourages a revenge reverse mentality to play out. Provocation is the goal here?

Time for whites to serve black masters now?

Revenge is sweet?

Is that it?

Since i am not an American, i would say, ban the weapon for civilians and dont let the police carry weapons on them at all times. But i do not believe America is ready for that yet

Maybe see each others as the same, as human beings and treat each others as that. as human beings without killing each others is a good start?

Some have made similar proposals, and the current administration might push more in that direction. Maybe it would help to reduce the number of violent incidents, although I don't know if it would help the underlying problem.

Most people are not American.
Most people are not White
Get over it.
Posters are often surprised when signs appear that
a poster isn't Ameristanian. His posts are usually
typical of someone who lives here...& his English
is pretty good.
But despite being Finnish, he is white.
Many Fins are.

It is, but I feel provocation, even if justified, is a poor way in obtaining any desired goal of equality.
It's always useful for people to think before they act.
Some useful self questions....
Will this sign inspire friendship or hostility?
Will trying to stab someone with a knife get me shot by cops?
Will a high speed car chase inspire cops to be gentle with me?
Will trying to break into the Capital Building during a riot get me shot?

As Chris Rock might say.
"Just don't do that ****."
