Small Government - A Trump Goal - Apparently

True… and this is why I like it… The two aren’t politicians and don’t owe anyone anything. They are business men.

And therefore dedicated to their own profits.

I've always been somewhat amused when Trump supporters say "He will run the country like business". That's not a recommendation. The skill set needed to run a successful company is quite different from that of a successful government official. For a start, it's not all about profits.

More likely that they will look for ways to funnel money to themselves from the public purse.

I’m a little more optimistic
I had some subsidy to my income during the UK lockdowns. Providing a safety net is one of the vital functions of government that allows us to have a functioning society.

OK…

True, I'm in the UK.

I can only assume that you would find accurate reporting on Trump to be highly biased.

I’m looking more towards the future and the hard facts that will be seen by all rather than by looking at what news media feeds us.

Maybe we can revisit in a year to cut out fake news.

So, what you are saying is the politicians way of running it has been great?

And let's not forget his mismanagement of the Twitter takeover, and it's fall. It is still highly used, but it's losing users by the millions since the election, and people joining Bluesky as an alternative. I think Twitter/X or TwiX, will become like parlor, and and Trump Social, and just be far right platforms.

I'm not too sure about that. X enabled him to get Trump elected (well that was part of it). He now owns Trump (or thinks he does) and the payback in terms of looser regulations may far outweigh what he lost on X. Look at the market valuation of Tesla, a huge jump to $1.062 trillion, largely fueled by the Trump win. Now does he seem so foolish?

Not at all . Any businessman that does not put profits first will soon be out of business. It's not necessarily a bad thing ... when you are running a business.

Not always, but it really is a different skill set. A business doesn't have to consider the well being of the employees, unless it contributes to the bottom line, Pretty much all the improvements we have seen in employee benefits, reduced work week and so on have been accomplished by workers' forming Trade Unions and forcing change on the employers. A government (ideally, in a democratic system) has to consider the general well being or it doesn't stay in power very long. What a business would call a loss making section, like benefits for the underprivileged are a necessary part of government. A business would simply shut down such an entity and lay off the workers.

Also, quite good at obtaining government subsidies.

It is extraordinary watching the American response to being fleeced once already by Trump; turning out their pockets for him again. It's like you can't wait to have him steal from you.
I once calculated that 30% of the price
of a Tesla was taxpayer subsidized.

In other words you have no idea
Given all the unclaimed permits under Biden it appears so. Oil and coal are getting left behind. The markets are blowing for things like solar and windmills and other cleaner, more renewable sources of energy.
I wonder what will happen and what will be said when Trump finds there isn't as much market enthusiasm for new drilling as there is MAGA enthusiasm for it. Even many large corporations are getting concerned about Global Warming, and energy companies especially are not going to voluntarily lose out on their slice as the world turns to green energy.
Amd not only that, I haven't paid over 4 bucks a gallon for gas in awhile amd I've seen it at some places for $3.55 in California, so it's definitely going down. But MAGA doesn't really wanna see it (they'd rather see me as one them apparently).

X lost a lot of value after he bought it. And a lot of advertising. And now it's losing users. He did use it to exploit users for political advantage. And that has paid off, and now he's cashing in. I'd call it bordering on fraud. It's no doubt corruption. I don't think the story is over yet.

Skanky Old Mongrel!
I’m actually excited about the possibility to reduce wasteful spending.

STATEMENT FROM PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP I am pleased to announce that the Great Elon Musk, working in conjunction with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency ("DOGE"). Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies - Essential to the "Save America" Movement. "This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people!” stated Mr. Musk. It will become, potentially, "The Manhattan Project" of our time. Republican politicians have dreamed about the objectives of "DOGE" for a very long time. To drive this kind of drastic change, the Department of Government Efficiency will provide advice and guidance from outside of Government, and will partner with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before. I look forward to Elon and Vivek making changes to the Federal Bureaucracy with an eye on efficiency and, at the same time, making life better for all Americans. Importantly, we will drive out the massive waste and fraud which exists throughout our annual $6.5 Trillion Dollars of Government Spending. They will work together to liberate our Economy, and make the U.S. Government accountable to "WE THE PEOPLE." Their work will conclude no later than July 4, 2026 - A smaller Government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th Anniversary of The Declaration of Independence.
Lets see how this turns out in 1-2 years time. Until then, no comment. :)

OK… this is what the Democratic Republic is all about. Apparently more people are thinking my way than yours. Let’s pray for the best. Mid-terms are just around the corner and things can change.
