Socialism gets pretty ugly

Star Trek gives us a vision of what a socialist future might look like.

"People are no longer obsessed with the accumulation of things. We've eliminated hunger, want, the need for possessions. We have grown out of our infancy."

Star Trek relies on science fiction and fictional technology to create the image being present. Trek's utopia is dependent on make believe. I do not think you know Star Trek well enough to understand how flawed it is to use as an example.

I don't think you know a good-natured, light-hearted post well enough to understand how flawed your response is here.

@PopeADope , this may be useful: Fascists were not socialists - Libcom

The Nazis were not socialists; their name was a relic of a time when putting 'socialist' in your name garnered public support. They targeted socialists and put them in death camps. If you care to learn the slightest things about what socialists and fascists want, you'll immediately realize they have nothing in common; the only 'socialist' part of the Nazis was their name.

I knew I was somewhat mistaken. Fascists were socialists with a capitalist veneer.

They crushed leftists, marxists, and liberals. Yeah. Great arguments have been made that fascism has its roots in communism though.

I admit, my understanding of socialism is a bit simple-minded. I consider socialism to be big government with high taxes where much belongs to the community rather than individuals.

Everyone is supposed to work together, everyone is supposed to enjoy what is produced. Everyone is to share possessions. Wealth is to be what everyone benefits from rather than individuals.

That is beautiful in theory. If the people in control are benevolent, compassionate, altruistic, wise, prudent, and know what is best for the people, then it works fabulously, as everything is distributed towards noble causes.

I have a different interpretation of socialism. I have lived in communities where it is successfully practiced.

There are many different interpretations of socialism.
