Some Mormon missionaries tried to talk to me.

So more like Lucifer.
Lucifer is a Roman deity of the dawn. Him and Odin have nothing to do with each other. Odin is a deity of unrestrained fury, exploration and wisdom. He is the embodiment of the Will to Power, to put it one way. He is the force of unrestrained primal life.

Yes, this is the same as non-theistic Satanism, they just took the deity idea out of their religious writings. They use 'satan' to represent the idea. Luciferianism is the same. Some is theistic, some isn't. You could have written Lucifer there, or Satan, and written the same statement.

The problem with that is that Satanists make Satan whatever they want it to be. The concept is so vague that Satan can be viewed in whatever way you please or syncreticized with any deity or figure. So that's an irrelevent comment. Odin, on the other hand, is a definite concept from a particular set of cultures. I am not a Satanist or use Abrahamic concepts.

But when I get uninvited guests from government, asking my family questions about any recent construction or what I do there, I'm less polite. I sternly explain they should ***** ****** ******* ****** & get their *** ****** ***** ***** because ***** ***** ***** & they ****** ******* ***** ****** their mother's ***** **** in the ***** ***** ********. As they leave I follow them closely to their vehicle, continuing the 'discussion'. These predatory ******* ***** ********* don't deserve the courtesy I give innocents. Fortunately, this happens far less often.

As you should! Carry on.

This is my strategy as well. It's always pleasant. Helps to know a bit about how the missionary process works, but they'll tell you if you ask..

Same here. In my experience, even though they introduce themselves as Sister (or Brother) So n' So, they appreciate someone who isn't interested not brushing them off as "those mormons" but remains nice and even willing to chat.

They're kids. I gained huge compassion when one chap was just wishing to go home. (I heard him mumbling to himself across the fence) It's two years alone, in a strange place, not much contact with family, constant changes, not knowing those changes, overt negative reactions to proselytizing, very little money, and more. He confided to me that the proselytising bit he could have done without, happy to do the stuff within his church. Compared to your average 18 year old in the west, these kids are saints. No booze, no drugs, a focus on character building. They're role models.

Yes, when you get down to the nitty gritty philosophy, I have huge differences, obviously, I'm a Hindu, lol.

I get two little old lady Jehova's Witnesses who give me their little booklet thingy every week. My mother is far too polite to reject it. So we just sort of tolerate them.
The really annoying ones are the ones who proselytize you whilst you're at work. It's just like, let me do my job in peace. I mean, rude much?
Though to be fair there is a group of missionary kids who come into my shop every week and do not proselytize anyone trying to serve them.

If I believed in Thor & all the attendant mythology, the best thing to do would be to
play it straight. There's no need to challenge or belittle the visitors.....just amaze them with something they never expected. A good time will be had by all.
From personal experience, that doesn't work either. They continue to assume it's just a fandom, a "fad", or a passing fancy. And it usually ends with awkwardly being handed more useless literature.

You are right that there is no need - at first - to belittle them. "Challenge" depends largely on what the individual takes as a challenge; to some, merely disbelieving in their god is a challenge. But neither is the best thing to do lying down and taking the schpeal. Nothing requires us to do so, or to remain polite when we are "visited" day after day.

What? You didn't try to covert them to Heathenry? Missed opportunity there...
Why? If we oppose proselytization and conversion efforts, why would we resort to the same? If someone is called to the Gods, let them listen and come to them, and we will welcome to our kindreds.

Odin is a deity of unrestrained fury, exploration and wisdom.
To clarify this - as it's a point of some confusion - when Odin is described as "furious", it's not meant to say that he is angry or wrathful. It is meant in the manner of high passion, as in he "furiously seeks knowledge".

You could have written Lucifer there, or Satan, and written the same statement.
As he has said, Odin is not Lucifer or Satan. Stop insisting upon ignorance.

Different techniques for different people.

I would say different techniques for different situations, as well. Remember, they're not there to hold a conversation - they're not really interested in the Mjolnir, or any other non-christian iconography. They use it as a conversational in to inform the target non-christian of the "better way."
