Rubbish, on who's part?

If God prescribed that they be spared in order that the men may indiscriminately have their way with them, then what?
They may as well be killed now since they are nothing more than prostitutes or women of ill repute - unworthy to be married.
And, even the men have defiled themselves by their own promiscuous and indecent behaviour.

Again:

With the Midianite race wiped-out, such an honour killing will bear very little significance to anyone still alive (only the virgins remained), consequently leaving both the widow and her offspring destitute.

God had a high regard for one's virginity, and it was emphasized as in the case of Rebekah and Esther. And, even in the case of Tamar, Absalom's sister, who was destined to a life of a spinster due to the loss of her virginity.

Virginity was a coveted status in the eyes of prospective Israeli husbands, and other cultures it appears also.
Thus, offering a more substantiated explanation to the motive behind God's allowance of the Hebrew conquerors to take the virgins for themselves, as brides.

Loving God and my neighbor as myself.
Well, then it may appear that we have a fundamental discrepancy between our views of the Bible, as to whether or not it was written under the auspices of God?
Let me ask you a question. If the Bible were really dictated by God to some secretary, do you think the Bible would say the slave is the property of the Master, and that it is okay if he beats his slave to death, provided the slave lives for several days first.

The Bible has drawn many people to be closer to God. But not because it wasn't written by men.

Referring to the poll.... Women pastors...
-will it make difference
-will they be better, worse or equal
-can they handle the confessions
-will they keep confessions confidential
-etc, etc
I am with you. If you confess something to a woman she will blab it all over the place, Us'n men know what terrible gossips women rare. Totally unlike us'n.

That is why they only saved the virgins for private sex slaves. Sheesh, get with the program man. I thought that you were for this.

Pre-arranged marriages is a common custom among many cultures.
I say this as far as not receiving the consent of the children is concerned.
Pre-arranged by murdering your potential captive's parents? Please.

It may have been common prior to the industrial revolution, but you must have a pretty weak God if it couldn't arrange the industrial revolution for the preservation of the lives of war captives in my view.

You should dwell more on His mercy rather than always selectively pointing out the harsher parts of the Bible.
Both you and I need mercy - that should be your first concern.
What mercy? Creating a problem just have the solution isnt mercy.
Marriage, would be my understanding, for sure. That's why He emphasized chaste.
Try sex slavery, which includes forced marriages.

Are you saying its ok to rape a woman as long as you provide for her and otherwise protect her?

The immorality of certain conservative Christians is incredible in my view.
Exactly, now you have it!

(By the way, you may not have noticed, but for this thread I have switched over to the dark side)

But we do not call it rape if God says it is okay, just as we don't say that it is slavery if God says that it is okay. Even though it still is. Oops, almost out of character there. Yup! If God says it's okay then it is not rape, or slavery, or in the case of killing innocent people like her parents that is not murder either. It is so handy to have God on your side.

My contention was that categorizing the mandate as rape, in the contemporary sense, was erroneous. The men must still provide for and protect their spouse.
So here, in the 21st century, you truly wish to go on record proclaiming that what a man does to a women cannot be characterized as rape so long as he feeds and houses her while protecting her from those other than himself? Seriuosly? That is thoroughly disgusting.

The Bible has drawn many people to be closer to God. But not because it wasn't written by men.
There are many difficult passages, but not an overwhelming amount.
Mankind is rebellious, defiant and impertinent towards God - and yet, God's mercy transcends any austerity that He may appear to exact.

They were destined to die initially, due to their idolatrous practices and persuasion of the Israelites to do the same.
Thus, we can consider this pre-arrangement as merciful.

You called it rape, I never, ever did.
I said marriage was the intent, and all that it entails within a Hebraic society. Rape, like I said, is antithetical to marriage.

For flippin' crying out loud, how obtuse do you insist on remaining - no one is talking about sexual abuse here - except for you and your cohorts?

The stipulation to segregate and spare the virgins from the married, or the unchaste, is a clear indication that the intent was for marriage.
And, once marriage is introduced as part of the equation (eg; potential progeny bearing), it precludes the accusation of abuse, contempt, disregard, or rape, as far as the demeanor of the husband towards the wife is concerned.
