Space exploration = "male entitlement"?

What? Me worry?
Well if you think about it, what is a rocket other than a metaphor for the penis? Planets, being spherical, are obviously eggs. Now they're talking about a rocket delivering its cargo onto a planet?

Clearly this is a problem that must be immediately addressed.

Got anything for flying saucers?

WWMRD?
It makes about as much sense as the young college educated female that said she doesn't believe in toilets because they cause people to be in an abusive relationship with trees. The reasoning for this stance was that people deprive trees of nutrients if they just flush it.

In the little descriptive paragraph just under her profile pic: "Purveyor of Fine Italian Lesbian Meats"

What the hell are "Lesbian Meats?" Is this saying she likes her lovers to be Italian? A feminist calling other women "meat?" I somehow doubt there is a deli involved in this equation...
She also claims to be a "cultural elitist". At least she knows she is a jerk.

Well, I'm going to be the one to say it:

Off-color rhetoric aside, the author has a point. They're not the first to make this point, either. But, given the atmosphere of this thread is no doubt going to be hostile to anyone who doesn't agree with the OP's opinion of this article, I'm going to take my leave.

It's more mockery than hostility.
So I don't give you permission to leave the thread.
You should address what you want....I promise to not bite.

Btw, I oppose the obsession with colonizing Mars....even with visiting it.
It's a waste of resources, & colonization is premature.

Opinion | Marcie Bianco: After pillaging Earth, the patriarchy looks to colonize Mars

Yeah, it's garbage like this that makes people who are otherwise egalitarian hesitant to identify as feminists. Thoughts?

Well, I think there may be some truth to the article, though obviously many things wrong with it. I think there is a male tendency toward colonization, and I for one, think that if we did colonize Mars, it would eventually become a political issue, and various countries would be fighting for control over different parts of the Red Planet. I think we are lying to ourselves if we believe that Mars exploration is exclusively about scientific inquiry, learning, and curiosity. After all, the "Space Race" of the 1960s was not at all about exploration; it was about showing off one's country's power, and was an important aspect of the Cold War.

It was definitely a shot fired during the Cold War; and it was meant to be.

It would be a mistake to assume women haven't been involved in colonization, space
exploration, & exercising political power. To call such things "The Patriarchy" should
be insulting to those female types who played important roles of their own volition..

Well...leaving feminism aside, I blame Sci-Fi shows for creating dreamers who believe we will land on Mars soon
I somewhat agree. We are still reliant on fossil fuels and have no real perspective of overcoming that crutch; we have little hope of stopping climante change; yet somehow we also expect to be colonizing other planets in the foreseeable future? Really?

As for the article referenced in the OP... wow, it sure looks like she overdosed on ideology.

There is no climate change to stop, so maybe we can use that useless rhetoric to power our interplanetary spaceship.
