Because you have to buy them. What else are you gonna do, walk around bleeding all over the place?
They know we have to buy them.
Some things are even more necessary, eg, food.
Yet there is vigorous price competition.
So are tampons just inherently costly?
Or is there a tampon cartel that fixes prices?

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
And you probably bought disposable diapers in spite of their price, that's capitalism and your choice.
I actually did both - bought some disposable diapers and also did a lot of laundry in the form of diapers. I only bought disposable diapers for when we were going out of the house. I don't know how people lived without disposable diapers and air conditioning but I guess they did!

(wonders if sticking her hands down in the toilet was gross)

I guess it was, but I'd do it again.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Hey, all I know is that many years ago, when I was buying tampons and using them, I was always absolutely shocked at the price of tampons. I think it was because the people making or distributing them or whatever KNEW that women would buy them no matter what the price was so there. TAKE THAT.
God help you if there is ever planned obsolescence becomes involved.

Can't you just hold it in <ducks>.
Why didn't I think of that!?

They are absurdly costly for some bizarre reason.

The Feds made tampons tax free about 10 or so years ago. That was exciting for about 5 minutes until tampon makers just raised the prices of the tampons up even higher.

To be progressive means to actively pursue real change. The democratic party does not want to actively pursue any real or significant change because the oligarchs that are paying for their campaigns and for all their perks while in office don't want any significant changes. They're rakin' in the cash just fine the way things are.
What do you mean by real change? Any change or a certain ideological change?

My mom used to use cloth diapers for me and I cannot imagine doing that. Ick.

I used to make Barbie tents out of my sister's disposable diapers.
Well, to each his or her own but I didn't typically use cloth diapers when I was going out but when I was staying home I often did.

If they're over-priced, this would
indicate a business opportunity.

If they did this in concert,
that would be illegal.

How much does a stick with cotton on it actually cost anyway? Can't be much.
I don't know what they cost or why.
But I do know that when I shop for products,
there is price variation. I buy what's best for
the dollar.

Well, they're trying to blame it on inflation ....
Is it instead is it a conspiracy by
the manufacturers or retailers?
Price fixing is illegal.

That's the thing too, there is very little price variation. (I always go for the stuff on sale, if I can. I am very frugal when it comes to things for myself).
Is it instead is it a conspiracy by the manufacturers?
Hard to say for sure. Can't get a straight answer anywhere.

I mean, from everything I can read on it, it sounds like they're trying to blame inflation, but prices went up loooong before inflation got seriously out of hand after COVID. So not sure I'm buying it.
