Terrorist attack in Toronto

I don't know how many more of these incidents it will take for the government to institute some kind of sensible van control.

Darn it Axe! You beat me to it. But seriously though. This is getting a bit ridiculous.

Yeah, we need to control the size of these dangerous vehicular weapons. A van is just too large for non-law enforcement personnel, a regular person can make do with a compact.

9 dead, 16 injured after van strikes pedestrians in north Toronto | CBC News

There's a video circulating showing the driver attempting to get the police to shoot him by quick drawing his cell phone. The cop held fire, fortunately. I hope this butthole gets exactly what he has coming.
"I almost had a heart attack. When I came here people told me it was a safe country and that's why I stayed here," said the student, who said he'd come from Iran.

"Now, I saw the accident, maybe I go back my country," he said.

Iran is safer than Canada?

Maybe, what do I know...

We don't need van control. We need speed control.

I am sure that this tragedy would not have happened if the van could not have gotten going over 10 mph.

My bad, this was in Canada, soarry.

I am sure that this tragedy would not have happened if the van could not have gotten going over 15 kph.

Plus, it was likely an automatic van.

Terrorist? Not according to that story.

And contrary to the snarky comment, the horrible slaughter of innocents needs to be stopped by sensible measures such as all the civilized nations have. Maybe the US will become civilized some day.

He probably never experienced anything like that, so he was perhaps fumbling with his words. Last year when we had an ISIS-inspired attack, one of those knifed was a 15-year old girl refugee from Syria, the comments from her family were they thought Finland was safe, but now they don't know anymore.

I agree. What do we do? Engineer our cities so that nothing can possibly go wrong?
It will always be a competition between malefactors & urban planners.
I expect that we'll be seeing sturdy bollards all along sidewalks.
And terrorists will find new means of attack.
And we will defend against that.
And so it goes.

No, no - let everyone drive on the sidewalk. The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a van is a good guy with a van. Once we have lots of people driving on the sidewalk, then we’ll be safe.

You would prefer the dude in the van had used a bump stock equipped rifle at a concert? After all, the October 1, 2017 Las Vegas attack killed 58 people and injured 851 in exactly ten minutes. Is that what you think a van can do?
