The 1000 year reign of Christ

Are there any Christians here on the forums who believe Christ will physically reign a literal 1000 years on earth before it is destroyed? Can anyone here tell me where this idea comes from? Please provide scripture if applicable.

I do:

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Here it says we will reign with him for a thousand years

Revelation 20:7-9 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

Here it says we are attacked by Satan after the Thousand years are ended. The location is on the earth, the place is the beloved city (Jerusalem)

So, do you believe that Christ is reining in heaven now, or do you believe that he will not become king until the 1000 years begins?

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Here it says we will reign with him for a thousand years

If these passages are truly to be taken literally, would this verse not refer only to those that had been beheaded for the sake of Christ in verse 4? -That those who were beheaded shall reign with Him.

Revelation is rife with symbolism, and is one of the most disputed books of the Bible. I would be skeptical to interpret these passages literally.

I believe you are right concerning the symbolism...the 1,000 years is a symbolic period of time representing the time between Jesus' death on the cross and His second coming.

Besides...Jesus cannot physically rule from Jerusalem because of Jehoiachin. Jesus is from the 'seed of Jehoiachin'...Jeremiah 22:30 states that none of his offspring will prosper (meaning rule), none will sit on the throne of David or rule anymore in Judah. (Jehoiakim...was actually Eliakim and placed on the throne by Pharaoh Neco, and as a sign of Pharaoh's power over him, his name was changed to Jehoiakim).

I think a clue is to be found in Paul's remarks in Ephesians chapter two:

Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly placesin Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Paul says we are already at the throne of God if we are IN Jesus Christ. We are in Christ; Christ is at the throne of God, therefore we have access to God NOW, not in a thousand years.

Jesus cannot physically rule from Jerusalem because of Jehoiachin.
Do you mean Jechoniah? He was the one whose rule was cursed in Jeremiah 22.

Regardless, you make a great point. Additionally, in light of Hebrews 5:6, Jesus is currently both our priest and our King. So, even if Jesus tried to establish a physical kingdom, he would also have to establish a physical priesthood. But He can’t be king in Jerusalem because of the Curse of Coniah, and He can’t be Priest on earth because He is not of the tribe of Levi. So, the very idea is a double violation of God’s word.

Jechoniah...was also known as: Jechonias, Jechoniah (in New Revised Standard Version) , Jeconiah (1 Chr. 3:16), Coniah (an abbreviation of Jeconiah) (Jer. 22:24), Jekonjah & Jehoiachin.

The Jews missed Him, as they were looking for a physical king and now...many Christians...are making the same mistake in thinking He will come back and establish a physical kingdom. He's already tried to tell people that (John 18:26) "My Kingdom is not of this world (or will it ever be)"...why do people continue to miss this...? I guess, it's our desire to see, touch, or feel things...the invisible God/Jesus throws us....

Gotcha. For some reason I was thinking that Jehoiachin was a different King.

Many times it is hard to get away from the natural human desire to see in order to believe. Besides, the church is the kingdom, and Christ is already its King.

The old translations of the Bible states MILLENNIUM which could really be symbolic for a very long time. Then Satan is let loose upon the Earth.

Jesus is a priest in the order of Melchisedec.
From Hebrews 7 KJV:
[14] For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
[15] And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
[16] Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
[17] For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
[18] For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
[19] For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
[20] And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:
[21] (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)
[22] By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

By this time the earth has already been destroyed. The fires out of heaven are just eliminating the opposing force.
Rev 16:17And the seventh poured out his bowl upon the air; and there came forth a great voice out of the temple, from the throne, saying, It is done:
18 and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunders; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since there were men upon the earth, so great an earthquake, so mighty.
19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and Babylon the great was remembered in the sight of God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

Jesus is not the son of Joseph which is the line of Jechoniah.

That's an old argument...in Judaism one’s religious identity is determined according to one’s mother. However, although Matthew and Luke knew that Jesus was not biologically the son of Joseph (explained in 1:18-25 and 1:31-35), they also knew that in the patriarchal society in which Jesus lived, one’s identity, a person’s standing in society, was determined by his or her father.

There can be doubt about the identity of a person’s father, there is rarely doubt concerning the identity of someone’s mother, and 2) This rule makes the child of a Jewish mother and a gentile father Jewish.

The Jews who complained when Jesus taught about the bread of life asked, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph?” (John 6:42). Jesus once referred to the Apostle Peter as “son of Jonah” (Matthew 16:17).

Jesus is legally considered the son of Joseph because Jesus was born of Mary, Joseph’s wife. Joseph could have officially declared that he was not Jesus’ father, but Joseph chose not to do that—he accepted the unique parenting role entrusted to him.

You are talking aboaut the kingdom of men but Jesus is King of the Kingdom of God. When the New Jerusalem comes there will be no more Judaism and no more Law of Moses. None of that is necessary in the KOG.

Of course...the original statement I was referring to was concerning His 'earthly' lineage...the explanation of how Jesus would come from the families of both Abraham and David...so Matthew tells us He was the Son of David and He was the Son of Abraham....
