While I myself firmly believe in the divinity of Jesus and in the Gospel, as is part of Anglican tradition, I do not damn Jonas Salk (or anyone else) for anything period, far less for what he (or anyone else) does or does not believe. That's Christ's job.QUOTE]

It's kindly old Jesus' job to damn people to hell...sort of goes against the all loving bit doesn't it?

As I understand it Jonas Salk fails to worship Jesus, Jesus sends him to eternal torturous damnation. Perhaps I'm oversimplifying. Do you believe in salvation by faith alone, or by works, or a combination?

It don't matter what your religion is. You must love God with your whole being, and love your neighbor as yourself. Word up?QUOTE]

It doesn't? So Buddhists and Wiccans make it to Christian Heaven?

What about me? I live a good life, give to charity, don't cheat on my wife, pay my taxes, yet one day I just woke up and discovered that...no matter how hard I try...I just can't believe in God. I'm going to hell for being "wicked" am I not?

Or is Pope Francis right when he says there is room for atheists in heaven too?

Yeah but according to the mosaic law anal sex would logically be 'cleaner' than vaginal sex. or am i mistaken?

At least, while a woman is menstruating, vaginal sex is unclean. In general, it's fine. Anal sex, is (quite, obviously) forbidden under Mosaic law. It's always considered unclean.

I cant remember reading about that but im also no expert because i remember only tiny bits and pieces of the Old Testament. Can you help me out? So anal sex and oral sex are forbidden either: by the Bible or by the tradition of Jews and Christians, is what it sums up to. Unless you think oral sex is fine, unlike anal, ofcourse.

Unclean as in messy maybe, but there is nothing unsanitary about it. If you don't mind the 'ick' factor, there is absolutely nothing wrong with intercourse during mentration.

That goes back to Scripture. “The Father judges none, but has given all judgment to the Son.” Jesus, while He was on Earth was kindly, the singular standard of how to be a righteous human, but many people even today, don't care about His example or what He taught. Some abuse that, others mock Him for it. On the Judgment Seat, He won't be too much a “pushover” anymore...

It doesn't matter, insofar as all of us are human beings. God's Way is the same for everyone, without partiality. With that said, believing in God is important. He is at the heart of everything Christ Jesus taught, especially the Gospel, and plus, He is the Creator of Heaven and Earth. As for you, you sound like you have trouble with believing in God. Why?

Yes. Anal sex is explicitly forbidden in Scripture. Oral sex, while it isn't talked about, would fall under sexual immorality. So for me it, too, is immoral.

Talk about a bloody sausage. I, personally, do mind the ‘ick’ factor. I just get queasy.

He wasn't such a pushover while he was here either...he opened a serious can of whoop-*** on those moneylenders, tell you what. :)

As for you, you sound like you have trouble with believing in God. Why?

Short answer, because the idea is patently absurd. Longer answers available if you care to hear, but it's got to do with things like logical fallacy, how humans existed long before the invention of Yahweh, the absurdity of a human-centric model in the vast universe, the thousands of other Gods humans have worshiped, the silly idea of a soul as a personallity escape pod, and the complete incompatibilty of the idea of a loving father damning the vast majority of his children to agonizing eternal torture.

But it doesn't matter my reasons, I cannot force myself to believe in God any more than you can force yourself to believe in Snuffleupagus. I could SAY I believed, but internally I do not. God wired my brain in such a way that it won't accept the concept, and now after a life that is statistically insignificant compared to eternity, I will spend the rest of my existence wailing and screaming and being burned and tortured. Because of something I can't help. Super.

I'm not super fond of it either. In my younger days, I'd take it whenever I could get it. These days, after being married for 12 years, a week off ain't such a bad thing. :)

Okay, whats your reference, can you give a quotation?

Honestly, I wouldn't be able to, as it's not dealt with in Scripture. It's more a matter of deciding based on your conscience if you believe something is right or wrong.

Ah, I see. It doesn't make any bit of sense to you. How God on one hand says, “I love you”, but on the other, seems cruel and unforgiving. I once felt what you're feeling. You see, that's why so many people believe in God in the first place. He's a personal being. He can relate to us, and we to Him. He has emotions, as beautifully complex as we humans have. Have you ever been happy?, or angry?, or envious?, or melancholy? Yeah, everyone has. He is. If someone did you wrong, do you sometimes feel vengeful? Yes. He definitely understands what human beings feel, and how complex we can be.

There's a lot more too it than that. I was raised Catholic and belived when i was young, so I'm very familiar with the religious life. I've read the Bible twice, once as part of my early religious training and once in college as part of a comparitive religion course. It's just as I grew up I grew out of the idea of a literal God. The stories of the Bible are preposterous.

In my opinion, no one in their right mind could believe things like 2000 years ago an angel actually came down to ask a human woman if the creator of the universe could impregnate her, that a magical zoo-boat once floated every existing animal around a completely flooded earth, that a man lived inside of a giant fish for three days and came out fine, that Jesus sent demons into a bunch of pigs and made them jump off a cliff, or that he peformed magic tricks like healing people with a touch of his ET-like finger or took one fish and made a whole chitload of fish.

None of it is true. I have no problem with using the lessons of Jesus as a guideline for living morally. If someone uses the idea of love thy neighbor to be nice to people, that's great. It's the literal belief I have a problem with. It's preposterous and damaging to us as a race. I watched a priest at my church tell a 7 year old girl her parents were going to hell because they got divorced and she ran of screaming and crying. My mother confronted the priest and he said "I have to tell her the truth." This is what literal belief does to people...it's incredibly damaging to go around thinking a Cosmic Overlord is watching your every move and he will burn you forever if you don't worship him. How can we all be one if your religion says everyone who doesn't toe the line gets agonizing torture for eternity?

Uhhhh.....I'm not Roman Catholic, I'm an Anglican. Additionally, I never said that what's in the Bible literally happened. Some of it is metaphorical, other parts of it are literal. My faith is about the lessons that the Bible can teach us.
