The Chill Out thread

Coolies, that works for me! :p Hey, evearael, what do you suggest for my consistently dropping blood sugar level (like every 3 hours I'm on the verge of a hypo). :faint:
Eeek! I am not a medical professional, and am not trained to give accurate medical advice. I would consult a physician or pharmacist (pharmacists are great because you can bug them with questions for free!). I was able to help Sunstone because I have several heart conditions... one of which has dizziness as a side effect... and I've read up on how to control the symptoms. Are you eating enough, Bastet? This may help: http://www.webmd.com/hw/diabetes_1_2/tp20420.asp?pagenumber=2

:biglaugh: I'm sorry I freaked you out, evearael - I was being silly. :p I was actually at the doctor's yesterday talking to her about the hypoglycaemia. I'm considering getting a second opinion though, cause she wasn't very helpful. I'm eating at the same times I always have, I'm eating pretty much the same foods (if not healthier). Short of eating 6 times a day (which isn't helping my waistline), I haven't been able to control it. I'm not diabetic, btw.

Bastet, there are Glucose Tablets that you can find at just about every pharmacy. They are not prescription. They kind of taste like SweetTarts. They are processed glucose so as to enter your blood stream faster than any food or candy you may use. I've dealt with hypoglycemia off and on since I was a teenager. These work well if you lack anything else you can do. Also, if you like fruit, eating an apple or orange as a snack is a great way to keep your blood sugar regulated between meals. The tablets are for use when you can actually FEEL your level dropping. Best to eat a couple once you start getting the telltale headache or dizziness before it gets too bad.

And on another note...the "cupcakes" thing...I don't quite get it. Except for one time where I messed up the tenth time I don't have much problem with it. I just tried again and made it to 34 before having a slip of the tongue. But then, that may be because I can talk really fast anyway, even won over $300 on a radio contest for that ability to repeat something many times in a row. I'm a dork :p

Good advice. I carry glucose tablets around with me as well.

Bastet, you're not the only one! I have had a test for diabetes at the doctor once or twice, and my blood sugar comes out on the low side.

Once or twice, recently, my wife has noticed that I go pale, weak and shaky. This actually happens around the same time each day. I mentioned it to the doctor who suggested that I have something like a banana mid-morning, before it hits me.

And I know where you're comming from with the waistline bit; I need to watch mine very carefully.

I'm normally what considered "borderline hypoglycemic". I'm on the very bottom of the "normal" range. As long as I eat well and regularly I'm fine, but there have always been times in which my diet has dramatically changed (especially bootcamp) or I have been so poor I couldn't afford much food, that I had problems.

Regular snacks of fruits in the best way to control it. (Eating apple as I type this ;) )

No use in "watching" mine now...it's all I can see anyway! My feet have disappeared! :D

Thing is, I've had the occasional hypo in the past, usually when I've gone waaaay too long without food (and I've been able to go some pretty long stretches without food before it would happen). But this is like clockwork, 3 times a day, every day (if I'm at work), twice a day on weekends. I'm less concerned about how I should control it, and more concerned about whether there is an underlying cause for it. My diet has not changed in such a way that would explain it. My work hours are no different. I'm getting plenty of sleep.

Some people become diabetic in their adult life out of nowhere. Body changes happen as you age. That's just fact. Also, diet and sleep aren't the only factors that can mess with your system levels. Your stress levels, your exercise level, and so on. It may just be a change in your life that you have to learn to handle. See what the doctor says, yes, but in the mean time, if you know when and how often you have these attacks, then try carrying the tablets on you and take one or two BEFORE you would normally feel bad. You may be able to regulate it like this. This would also be handier for the work situation. While you can always grab an apple or some other snack at home on the weekends, by carrying the tablets in your purse you always have something at work to help.

There's a cinnamon-type of thing that keeps getting advertised on the late-night shows here. It's supposed to help with blood-sugar imbalances. Since I have... curses, I can never remember if it's hypo or hyperglycemia, I've been thinking of trying it out.

Speaking of chilling out. Their talking about humid 90 degree temps tommorrow so the family and I are making a mandatory trip to the town pool tommorrow. I can't wait. I've got to make up for all the days I couldn't go swimming when I was a kid. My boys are spoiled in that aspect. The pool even has a diving board but I am still too scared to do back flips off of it despite the fact that I could do them as a kid. I guess I have become more of a woos with age.

oh I wish! I'd give anything to go swimming! Unfortunately I have no bathing suit to fit this ever expanding body and no transportation to go to a pool anyway. Turk will have the car tomorrow to work. And his poor butt will be stuck in a plant that will be upwards of 120 degrees inside with the temps outside being in the 90's. I don't envy him.

I would like to go to Lake Rathbun before the season ends this year. Will have to see how that works after Jamie is born though.

Wish I could help out with the swimsuit issue. Shoot, If I knew that you lived close enough, I would even attempt to pick you up. I don't envy Turk either. I used to work at the brick yard in Adel and it got pretty hot in there too with two ginormous kilns that ran 24/7. They used to hand out little sponges with strings attached to them to put on your forehead.

:D Turk just said they have the same little sponges on strings where he works. And if you live in Adel, you're about 2 hours away from me. Not exactly "on the way" you know?;) We live in Ottumwa now, though we might be moving in a few months if possible.

I actually live in Menlo, which is right next to Stuart which has the pool. Do you happen to know any Cottrels in Ottumwa? Tell Turk that I truly wish him as good of a day as possible tommorow.;)
