With turtles and an elephant holding it up (Terry Pratchett reference).

One turtle, the Great A'Tuin, four elephants, Berilia, Tubul, Great T'Phon, and Jerakeen. And i am not a Pratchett geek.

I have had that happen too. It is difficult to tell what is going to become popular and you can't save everything. I live knowing that dollars have slipped through my fingers because I wasn't far-seeing enough, but at the time, it wasn't so important.

You think you have problems. Our first house we bought for £45,000 in 1997, sold it for £47,950 in 1999. Earlier this year it was sold for £279,000...

I just checked what my house would sell for in today's market, may be a bit different now, but the last estimate was $430,000. And it is a tiny 2 bedroom bungalow with a detached garage. That is insane.

I hear property is dirt cheap on your side of the pond.
It depends where one lives. During the pandemic I could have sold my house, moved to a twice as large one' perhaps even with a pool and not have to pay any money out of pocket. If I was willing to move to Las Vegas. That city was hit incredibly hard by the pandemic. I could still move to quite a few places in the South and probably have close to 300,000 left over if I moved to a house of the same size.

We paid $350k for our place 8 years ago, last valuation a year ago was $850k. Not that it does us any good because everything else has gone up too.

That's true and then some for us. Of course there was a lot of inflation along the way.
