Is the plural of sand fly, sand flies or sand flys?
You reminded me of a line from the movie "Clash of the Titans" from 1981. For whatever reason that line about "blood-gutted marsh flies" has stuck in my head for 43 years and pops up of its own accord frequently.

I'm shocked that 1981 was 43 years ago!

I don't think I know of the movie. Much of the early 80s is a blur.

Now I didn't use my expertise in Ancient Language that I just made up to go into detail about the word usage and spelling for flies in that much maligned and entirely unrecognized and unknown language.
