The Law Is Often Not About Preventing Crime, But Rather Just Punishing People

You mean the death penalty doesn't prevent murder?
When you consider what criminals go through in order to avoid the death penalty, it is obviously a deterrent. Just because something isn't 100% effective, doesn't mean it isn't effective at all.

Definitely a concern. My own thoughts on the matter is the fact slavery is still around and perfectly legal, endorsed and supported by both parties, and this is the way America does it as a modern day slave country.

Except the plantation owners are no longer private citizens, the plantation owner today is the government.

There needs to be a Confederate flag flying in every prison in the country.
Prisoners are not owned, prisoners are not beaten for not working hard enough. Slaves were not allowed to strike due to poor working conditions; to equate our prison system with slavery of yesteryear is a disrespect to our ancestors who had to go through real slavery.

The idea is that it deters others. It clearly didn't deter the murderer.

Slavery exists and it's forced labor. Penalties can be severe. Enough said about it.

The hopeful or the hopeless?
Not worth responding to
:thumbsup:As you wish. These things which involve emotional reactions do take a lot of energy out of you. It is the easier path not to respond sometimes.;) Of course, as I'm sure you'll agree, I've been completely misinformed and ignorant of the truth in these matters.

We live in different times.
Isn’t that the truth!

It has been “different” - read bad - since WWI.

The problem is, the majority don’t recognize that, because we’ve been living in it.

Take care, cousin. Ive been enjoying your posts!
