The Most Frightening Thing (for me)...

I was referring to your statement that " Harris was called upon to unleash WW3 and to turn Europe into a nuclear battlefield. So we Europeans are all nuked and dead."

I'm having a difficult time remember when that happened, you see.

But for the record, I am a huge Europe supporter. Canada is a member of NATO, and that is something a greatly approve of, since it increases the safety for EVERYBODY -- including Russia -- because it reduces the likelihood that any nation will take on a NATO country because the rest would respond with Article 5. (The European countries I support least, at the moment, are Russia, Belarus and Hungary, because I don't like dictators.)

To begin with, I remind you that at the moment Italy is one of Hungary's greatest allies.
So if you despise Hungary, you despise us. ;) No offense...but that needs to be pointed out.
Secondly, this is a territorial controversy that can be solved with diplomacy and bargaining.

The ones who want it to escalate into a WW3 live across the Atlantic. Not certainly in Europe.

So...if you support Europe, you should support peace. Avant tout.

And I say that simply handing Putin any or all of Ukraine will only encourage him to start hungering for more. That is characteristic of the sort of dictatorial and self-glorifying mind he possesses.

This is a blatant lie.
The USA conquered the 60% of the Mexican territory in 1848 but with the treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo the Americans have stopped hungering for Mexican territory.
Unless you believe in the religion that USA is entitled to own the entire world, while Russia cannot even have the lands which are legitimately hers.

And the Spanish stole it from the natives, your point?
Nevermind.

What does that have to do with Putin, and they can have Texas back if it will make you happy.

My point is this: if Mrs. Harris promises Europeans she will do anything to assure peace, I will support her.

Unfortunately...the thirst for war blinds the godless and warlike Democratic Party.

She has promised to support NATO which is the organization that you Europeans rely on to protect you from the depredations of countries that would strive to displace you.
Take a look at this country called Ukraine that had agreed upon borders, there may have been some dissension by some of the population whether they wished to be a part of one entity or another.
Unless we are going to go back to the venetians expanding their principality via conquest and then losing it again when others violently removed it from their sphere, Russia's actions are unjustified and but for them not being a part of NATO would never have even gotten going.

You want some version of Socialism, that's fine, I might even agree in many ways, but not Putin's way.

No. An alien intelligence that could visit us could overwhelm us if they wanted, so if they wanted we'd already be ET food. And since they don't exist, it seems highly unlikely.
I don't give a lot of thought to ETs, but I hardly think they'd employ the kind of overt strategy that you seem to suggest, if they existed, and were not entirely friendly with us. But if they were actually swarming areas with drones that couldn't be caught, or could violate the laws of physics, for a sustained period of time, one can see how it might not sustain mass attention.. Essentially it would become a non-story, because I guess maybe there would be a hard limit on what can actually be said about such a thing

And it's not only Putin. Xi is observing how the international community handles Ukraine. If we give in, he might try his luck with Taiwan. Supporting Ukraine until the original borders are re-established, prevents future wars.

I have to admit it -- it's quite possible that Trump could win, and regain his presidency.

Now, my personal opinion is that this would be absolutely horrible for the U.S., and for many other countries in the world. I've discussed all that at length, and that's not the point of this thread, so no more of that.

What frightens me most is this: as a lover of -- and strong believer in -- democracy, I will have to accept that a Donald Trump win would be the right outcome! That all my fears aside, it would be the best way forward for the United States, at this time in its history.

I confess, this is going to be a hard pill to swallow -- but gag as I might, I will swallow it.
I expect democracy to survive Trump.
But there’s a wee risk it won’t.
Most likely is another presidency of failed agendas (eg, the wall that Mexico would pay for), and a continued veering towards Christian governance, and hostility towards marginalized people.

Russia would do that without expecting anything in return.
If that is a burden for the NATO...maybe it's time to switch alliances.

There is something called referendums.
We have been making them in Europe for almost a century.

So you admit Putin is hated because his version of socialism displeases the banking America.

There's only one thing that can be said. They're not real. If someone believes aliens have developed secret technology to watch them, they don't need a telescope, they need a doctor.
