The Myths of Christianity

work in progress

Daniel was really the first prophet to speak more definitively about an afterlife but of course he was post exile. The book of Daniel really ushered in a lot of apocalyptic literature and had a big influence on the early jesus movement and probably the Essenes as well. A good book to read that talks about the evolution of Jewish thought regarding the afterlife is a book called Heaven by lisa miller, who is Jewish. It's basically an exploration of the different belief's on the afterlife and provides some good history and perspective on the subject.
It's also worth noting that the modern Hebrew scholars who understand the evolution and progression of the Hebrew language, do not accept the book as being authored by any Daniel mentioned elsewhere during the period of the Babylonian Exile. It is usually dated in the Maccabean period, when Judea was under Greek domination....and that's why the book can make such amazing and detailed prophecies. The Daniel prophecies intended for the future beyond the 2nd century b.c. are just as sketchy and open to interpretation as the ones in Revelation.

What is sketchy about Daniel chapter 2 ?

The huge political statue describes the rise and fall of world powers since Babylon [head of gold], followed by Medo-Persia [silver], Greece [copper], Rome [iron or iron-like rule], and down to our day of Anglo-American.

Verses [34,35,45,44] describe God's governmental kingdom as a 'stone'.
A stone that grows in size to become a 'great mountain' or mountain-like governmental rulership filling the whole earth.
Filling the earth with righteous kingdom authority by having Jesus, as crowned king of God's kingdom,
who will usher in global Peace on Earth toward men of goodwill.
