Obama's Victory Speech

What a speech! I found myself chanting "Yes, we can!" with the crowd, and the story of the 106 year old voter nearly made me cry.

EDIT: Whoops, wrong speech. Fixed it.
Thank you, Storm. A very wonderful, inspiring speech. There were many good moments that moved many to tears but his comment about all people sharing the same destiny resonated well with me. Am expecting a much better vision for all peoples from this new regime.

This election is of course historic, and it has affected so many people personally as evidenced by the scenes of emotion, joy, and celebration across the U.S. (and in RF posts :)), and given so many new hope and a feeling of unity with new direction that it gives me the feeling that the spirit of the United States many of us love is back.

You're welcome! Yeah, I'm not really a crier, so the fact that I got misty is pretty impressive.

Obama, with 97% precincts in, is ahead 53-46. That's a 7 point spread that might grow to 8. Turnout is projected to be the largest in over 100 years.

We're talking about an unprecedented win here.

I'm going to ask you the same question I asked someone else: Did we see the same speech?

Obama recognizes that the challenges ahead of us are huge. He recognizes that we're not going to be able to solve everything in one term, or maybe even in one life.

BUT AT LEAST NOW WE HAVE THE CHANCE TO TRY.

That is what we're celebrating about. :woohoo:

Does anyone know what the deal with North Carolina is? MSBNC's electoral map has Obama as the winner by like 10,000 votes but it's still grey....

Everything. What you're saying is that there is so much to change that it's impossible to fix everything in a short period of time, so why even try? Yes, it's going to take a lot of work and a lot of time to change things, education, world relations, debt, economy, etc, but we have to start somewhere. Hell, Obama might end up being as bad a president as Bush (although I'd bet quite a bit of money against that), but it seems that he genuinely understands what the people want and wants to do it. First, he's starting with increasing the maximum tax, which means that rich people will pay more taxes. That money has to come from somewhere, and it's pretty hard for it to come from the guy making $40,000 trying to support 3 kids. So, that's a start, and we'll go from there.

 Well, for starters, we're gonna change the way we respond to countries with whom we disagree. War will be a last resort, after other means have failed, instead of the first thing we do because we're so arrogant as to believe it will be easy.

Second, as mball pointed out, the tax structure, to make things more fair.

Third, and this is where I am most personally invested, transitioning to a green economy - taking us off our dependency on oil (which is contributing to us fighting wars), preserving the earth's climate, and creating green jobs for those who have been most affected by manufacturing jobs shipped overseas and those who are now working in fossil fuel industries.

Fourth, HEALTHCARE REFORM

Five, EDUCATION REFORM

Six, appointment of Supreme Court justices that will flippin' protect our civil liberties.

How's that??!
