The Perfect Moral Decision
Find some time alone. Relax and take a deep breath. Think about what you want for yourself, not material things but wisdom, compassion, and forgiveness. Think about the good qualities you possess and how much you wish to be an even better person.
Then, with full conviction, say:
"From this point on, I choose to do no harm. I choose to follow my conscience".
Say this as if you are speaking directly to a completely different being within yourself, your guardian angel. Direct it to your conscience, not outward. God is not above you nor outside of you. He's inside waiting for you to come looking for Him.
Then go back to your life.
It is only necessary to say this once but it must be perfect. Not the words, the intent must be perfect. Your conscience must know that you are positively making this decision without any doubt and with a complete understanding of what it entails.
This does not mean that you will never cause harm it just means that you will do your best to make the right decisions that take into account the overall good of the human race, the world, and the universe. The more good intent you build inside yourself, the better off everything will be, even for others who you never come into contact with.
A person might say the words of the perfect moral decision but have no understanding of what it means for them. Nothing would change for them.
They would still live their life the same, they would walk down a crowded street and see a person drop a $10 bill without noticing it, they would pick it up and place it in their pocket before anyone else noticed. This is someone who does not understand.
Challenge yourself:
What would I do if my best friend changed her hair and seemed happy with it but I hated it?
What would I do if I was in a terrible hurry and scraped the paint off the bumper of another car in the parking lot?
What would I do if I was at a meeting of school teachers and parents and they all wanted to enact a new rule that I disagreed with?
Just going over these situations in your mind will help you understand who you are. It will help activate and exercise your own individual conscience. There is no perfect answer to the above questions because each case depends on you and many other variables:
Maybe I know my friend will only keep her new hairstyle for a short time and it's not worth making her sad?
Maybe I'm in a hurry because I just got a call that my mother is being taken to the hospital in an ambulance and I don't have a pen and paper?
Even though I may disagree with the new rule at school I think we can give it a try and just change back if it does not work?
As you live realize your conscience at work. How do you feel when you do something that causes harm? Do you feel a deep sinking feeling inside?
