It was wonderful. I've never felt so good starting a new job, and I've never had a job I can feel good about doing. It involves a mountain range of paperwork, but getting to help people instead of clog their arteries and not just being another cog for mindless machine of job, it's such a wonderful feeling.
It does feel really weird though retiring the hammer and scythe as my tools of trade though. Having an office, having clients, and having to dress up better than t-shirt and jeans, being a part of that professional level, high-dollar latte sipping crowd, it's definitely a very new world for me. And the level of autonomy I enjoy, oh my god it's so nice.
Highlight of the day was one client who had a red-skinned, devil-horned Trump pinata holding a pitchfork.
At one point it the day, the thought even crossed my mind that this isn't work. I don't even have to wear a name tag/badge (technically, I can't even wear it outside the office due to privacy concerns). Sure, I'll taking tons of notes and doing lots of paperwork, but work? Nah. If you can say being put on hold isn't so bad because you're being paid for it and fulfilling required "billable hours" by doing nothing more than listening to "hold music," you don't work. Not sure what to call is as far as a single-word verb goes, but it ain't work.
