I'm not sure how Alaska, as part of the US, can be not surveilled when the rest of the US is...

I wonder how they hand out the surveillance assignments anyway. I imagine some areas of the country must be much more boring to surveil than others. You'd probably have to have a pretty high seniority in the surveillance department to get some of the choice assignments, like Beverly Hills or Miami Beach. The rookies probably end up getting some national park in Alaska or a cattle ranch in Wyoming.

It certainly would be in the interest of private companies that harvest data to appear as if they are protecting all information from the government, and opposing efforts by the government to access that information...at least in a few instances...
Do you imagine a conspiracy wherein companies
actually give government the surveillance data,
while just pretending otherwise?

Not officially, although there have been some private companies which can detain or eliminate people who get in their way. The old "concrete galoshes," as it were.
Do you believe that private companies pose
the same authoritarian risks to the populace
that government does in socialist countries,
eg, N Korea, Cuba?

Not as of now. But there are historic examples.
Did you ever fear that Menards could arrest, try, convict, &
imprison you? If you're arguing that companies have the
same power as government, & that we're as oppressed as
people in socialist countries, then my eyes just might roll.

don't have to imagine. It already happened...Project Shamrock

Project SHAMROCK

The question is, is something similar happening at the present time? I can IMAGINE such a conspiracy, but I don't have any evidence.

I will note, however, that no matter how paranoid I get, I just can't keep up with reality:confused:o_O:(:eek::oops::rolleyes:

The majority of the population would probably have very little risk in either situation. In both cases, the regular people just work, do their jobs, go home, and stay out of trouble. Anyone who goes around messing with any of Jojo Krako's or Okmyx's operations would be in a world of trouble, just like anyone who would mess around with the NK or Cuban government.

Nevade is even looking at a bill that would give corporations far more legal authority to basically set up their own towns and self-govern.
Nevada bill would allow tech companies to create governments
The zones would permit companies with large areas of land to form governments carrying the same authority as counties, including the ability to impose taxes, form school districts and courts and provide government services.
The draft proposal said the traditional local government model is “inadequate alone” to provide the resources to make Nevada a leader in attracting and retaining businesses and fostering economic development in emerging technologies and industries.

The Governor’s Office of Economic Development would oversee applications for the zones, which would be limited to companies working in specific business areas including blockchain, autonomous technology, the Internet of Things, robotics, artificial intelligence, wireless, biometrics and renewable resource technology.

Zone requirements would include applicants owning at least 78 square miles (202 square kilometers) of undeveloped, uninhabited land within a single county but separate from any city, town or tax increment area. Companies would have at least $250 million and plans to invest an additional $1 billion in their zones over 10 years.

The zones would initially operate with the oversight of their location counties, but would eventually take over county duties and become independent governmental bodies.

The zones would have three-member supervisor boards with the same powers as county commissioners. The businesses would maintain significant control over board membership.

From another perspective including government getting data from internet and cellphone use, the picture is different according to: Surveillance State Online and Offline: The World’s Most Watched People

View attachment 48416

Now will one or two people who assumed something different change their minds?

Why should I change my mind.. I told you it was like China... and I am certain you are referring to me....because as we all know.... its all about me. :)

Actually I think a State by State breakdown would be rather interesting.....I'm thinking NY is close to the top there, but then that is a complete guess

They do have more to watch there in one block than there would be to see in most of Montana, I suppose.

Yes absolutely.

Do you imagine all companies are perfect guardians of our data who would never give the government surveillance data?
