I remember my younger siblings and later on my little niece and nephew whom I had the pleasure of helping to rear. They all went through a phase of being surprised at seeing several family members at the table. One at a time as they passed through the toddler stage I would see them do this: They would begin pointing at each person at the table, realizing we were there, laughing and naming us. "Mommy, Daddy, Uncle...!" Like, it was something they just realized.
