I consider Irish and Gaelic to be the same language, or I will until you inform me otherwise.

I thought I just did inform you otherwise. Calling Irish Gaelic would be the equivalent of calling English Western Germanic. In the Irish language, the language of Irish is Gaeilge which is not the same as Gaelic, though it could account for your mistaken belief.
