The Walking Dead

It's good but not really a zombie show. Even when it was in the comics it was billed as a character study that just happened to have zombies in it. Everything is geared towards placing people into extreme situations to see how they react and interact with each other. In other words, its a drama. So far I like it, I only read the first trade paperback of the comics and the show is doing a good job of remaining true to the original subject matter. Looking forward to see how it goes.

I would first recommend that you do what I did and watch about a zillion zombie movies. After you see just how badly made almost all of those are, you'll get a craving for a decent zombie flick, and the Walking Dead will seem like high art.

Haha.

When you said it was "formula," you had me baffled. Now you just have me giggling.

Episode 7 of Season 2 was amazing.

Points taken. :p

I'll give it another chance.

Fancy way of saying "Zombie Fest!".

I wish they had shown more of how the apocalypse began instead of using the same plot device as 28 Days Later. I know we got some later, but still.

I agree with Trey's description. Less zombie and more character driven.

I'm looking forward to see if Lennie James' character ever makes another appearance. Not sure if he ever appears again in the comics but after seeing him in the beginning you're just left wondering what happened to Morgan and his son.

Started out decent, but the second season is just silly. The character motivations, dialogue, conflicts, and plot are so hacky, it's basically a soap opera with some zombie make-up thrown in.

Not sure what they will do in the TV Series but here's what happened in the comics.

Most realistic looking zombies of any production ever. And I live in California, I know what zombies look like.

I'm always reminded of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" when it comes to some of these zombie movies. The makeup artist for the video did a great job. Up until that point I don't remember better looking zombies. The Walking Dead gets it right as well. I saw the making of The Walking Dead special right before the second season started and saw how they do the makeup and it was awesome. Some zombies in the distance aren't as detailed as the ones in the foreground or close up shots but when they're all together you best to have your zombie repellant (i.e. Double Barrel Sawed Off Shotgun)....:p

I agree. I wished the pilot was dedicated to that. It's and easy story to go back and do though.

Right. What I didn't like was the fact that the cop was going from town to town, city to city using his low range radio and trying to communicate with Morgan. I'm not sure I get that.

The comic doesn't elaborate on the the origins of the apocalypse at all and Kirkman has said he'll continue this with the tv series and focus on the character's plight instead.

And TWD was published in Oct. 2003 while 28 Days Later wasn't released in the U.S. until July 2003 (in the U.K. April 2002)- Kirkman and Moore wrote the synopsis of The Walking Dead long before '02. Kirkman has also denied that he was influenced by Day of the Triffids (published 1951) which starts out exactly like 28 Days' and TWD.

After starting this thread I've been avoiding it because I hadn't finished the first half of season two. Now I have. Wow! I love this show and can't wait for February 12.

That's the number to remember. It starts at 35:35.

Edit: Not saying I agree or disagree with Shane. But you don't have to be right to be magnificent.

My girlfriend let me read the comics of it she has, and then she found the show on Netflix. It remains the only non-comedy zombie show that I like.

AMEN. I'm rocking in anticipation for next season. This has felt like the longest span between seasons ever.

Shane's the man. He's a stud, too.

Zombie apocalypse score board:

Rick - 1
Glen-1
Shane-2

I'm pretty sure Daryl is going to step up to the plate soon.

Do you consider Return of the Living Dead a comedy? It kind of is as it spoofs both Night of the living Dead and the Crazies (the original Crazies). Mostly I hate zombie shows with the exceptions of some of the comedies, the afore mentioned Returen of the Living Dead, and the Walking Dead.
