Cat litter is good for liquid spills. Smoking? Never smoked so can't comment. Thinking about safety, do those crocs have steel toe caps.

But you are jealous....so...yeah....
Of your ( theoretical ) elevation
Not how you got there.

If-as is in ressingly evident-you're more a tardigrade sort of bear rather than Ursus one might envy the ability to
survive liquid nitrogen, a vacuum or years' dessication.

But not whats involved getting there.

Gwei lo find Cantonese beyond their
ah, capacity.

Would, should you be admitted to our fairest of
cities, you be able to visit Repulse Bay and
have scones and tea, without breaking things and
trying to eat my gecko?

I know that Cantonese word......

Was in a Chinese bakery in a local Chinatown, many years ago, it was absolutely packed with old Cantonese ladies....... I ordered what I wanted and stood back waiting for my order..... one of the woman behind the counter put a bag on the counter and started calling out the order.... in Cantonese.... I stood there and did not move..... finally she said something different...in Cantonese...and that is when I hear one of the old Cantonese ladies say Gweilo.... since I was the only one in the room, and I was considerably taller than everyone else in the place....I surmised that this must be my order.....it was. Told my friend about it, he was standing outside, and was from Guangzhou... I thought it was funny...he got angry and was going to go in to talk to them about it.... I talked him out of it....

Major difference I actually see, other than language, height and food, between north and south, was told to me by a 2 different women, one I use to know from Guangzhou and my wife from Beijing..... "Southerners argue...Northerners hit"

Yeah.. i should not have used those words.
Im sorry.
Its quite rude, i only said it once, at some snooty
Brit, and mom " raked me over the coals".

I invited a Filipina friend from NYU to visit HK.

We were both going home for summer, she to Manila.

There are many tens of thousands of Filipinas here
working as domestics.

So...a young woman from Pnilipines is always assumed to
be a domestic helper.

At the 7-11 near Star Ferry, Kowloon side, the woman
behind the counter used a rude word for maid.

My friend knows Tagalog and English but didnt know what
was said. Or what I said when i tore into that woman!

But she figured out it was about her, and was embarrassed-

But no way would I not stand up for her!

That woman got an extra dose for embarrasing me,
showing my friend on her first day how low some are here.

I might not have listened to you if a coutryman disgraced
Chinese that way, Id probably be in there giving them an
opportunity to pause for reflection!

What i lack in size I make up in intensity.

Thanks for taking it ( my name calling) in good humour.
