Things I Learned on RF Today

Spam, wonderful spam (bloody vikings!)
I learned from the "30,000 feet of water" thread that God doesn't like the metric system. Is that why Americans don't like it either?;)

We don’t like the metric system because it was invented in France. France is an Unamerican country that we want nothing to do with.

You might ask, ‘What about that colossal gift from France, the Statue of Liberty?’ My answer is that we received it out of the kindness of our hearts, being good recipients and all. Of course, we placed it on an island off the coast of the precious mainland, and we haven’t really taken care of the statue’s exterior.

France is also UnBritish, though I do like the way they dealt with royalty.;)

What would America do without French fries?

What would America do without French fries?

Thankfully, ‘French’ fries didn’t originate in France. Further, the adjective French is mistakenly assumed to mean ‘of or pertaining to France.’ It is actually related to the Old English word franca, meaning ‘javelin’ or ‘spear.’ It is cognate with the Old Norse frakka, also meaning ‘spear.’ :p

So, it’s not as if Americans eat potato strips cooked by some metric unit-counting Frenchman, rather, we eat ‘fried spears’ cooked by somebody who counts US customary units. :p
