Things I Learned on RF Today

Thankfully, ‘French’ fries didn’t originate in France. Further, the adjective French is mistakenly assumed to mean ‘of or pertaining to France.’ It is actually related to the Old English word franca, meaning ‘javelin’ or ‘spear.’ It is cognate with the Old Norse frakka, also meaning ‘spear.’ :p

So, it’s not as if Americans eat potato strips cooked by some metric unit-counting Frenchman, rather, we eat ‘fried spears’ cooked by somebody who counts US customary units. :p

And calls them French fries although they are a Belgian invention

That is of course until one of your presidents gets ticked off with the French for not bowing down to American whim then they have a real downer on French restaurants and rename rhe fries to freedom fries.

I never really understood the logic behind this childish game

Royale with cheese? And is it true Belgians eat chips with salad cream?

Ah, that's why people stuff greasy, salty reconstituted fat depository tubes down their necks. Because it has to do with weaponry, and Jesus loves guns. I get it.

Among the things I learn on RF, and there are many, are things I learn about myself. Sometimes, RF is a good mirror to see what is reflected in it and to learn about oneself as much as about others or what others know.

The real import is in the constructive application of those observations and getting any application to take.

I don't think opportunities to learn ever end. We just stop bothering to learn and settle for what we have come up with to a point.
