Tired of being called a sinner?

Here's what you do Challupa;

when someone calls you a sinner go, "OH MY GOD!!! I'M A SINNER!!!! WHAT SHOULD I DO"!?!!

they'll inadvertanly say some version of, "You must repent"!

Then tell them, "I CAN'T REPENT!! HOW CAN I REPENT!?! I HAVEN'T EVEN PENTED YET! HOW THE HELL CAN I REPENT IF I HAVEN'T PENTED YET"!?! (note: be sure to look as guenuinely concerned about all this as possible)

They'll start to say something to get you to calm down and listen to thier shpeel--DON'T LET THEM. Instead, throw your hands in the air, start backing away from them and tell them, "I HAVE TO GO!!!! I HAVE TO GO PENT BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE"!!!!

Then runaway, looking frantically from left to right for a good place to pent.
That should get them all pent up.

I grew up in Calgary. It seems to me, only because I never ran into a true-blue foaming-at-the-mouth fundamentalist until I was in my mid-20s, that it's a recent infestation, contracted via Alberta's ideological and economic proximity to the US. Growing up, most of the religious people I knew were either good, old-fashioned United Church of Canada folk or Mormons. I did have one friend from Trinidad whose parents were Pentacostal...

To be honest, I don't know the distribution. I only got the impression Alberta is teeming with them because I had the bad luck to date a couple when I went back for a while. Honestly, they ought to wear arm-bands or something so they can be spotted early on, before you wake up "the morning after" and they're off cringing in a corner in their shorts, fending you off with a cross held aloft.
Must be fairly recent. I lived there when younger and it didn't seem too bad. Mind you I didn't pay a lot of attention to religion back then either. :DLike your analogy of the morning after!

Lucky for me, I don't have much family that are like that, and I haven't met many people like that either.

Sure, my parents don't like that I'm not Catholic anymore, but they know I'm a good person, so they're fine with it.

But I have been called a sinner by the occasional Christian Fundamentalist groups (I like to call them "sign people") that like to come on college campuses pointing at random people and saying "SINNER!" I used to try to argue with them, but then I realized it was like talking to a wall with the word "sinner" graffiti'd onto it. It's pointless. So instead, I just mess with them now. One of my friends Rick-Rolled a group before. Next time, I'm thinking of dressing up as a demon and just standing next to them.
Yes this is new for me too. I have rarely had people comment on anything. I guess it's because they don't want me to die and go to hell so they feel the need to point these things out to me.

Dress up as a demon with a sign saying I'm their alter ego!

I thought "God" was supposed to be the judge of things? Who are these people to think they can judge you and your beliefs?
Yes that's what I always thought too. But I guess because God doesn't actually have a voice box, he needs to use his elected on earth to do his talking. In all honesty I don't think they realize how they are coming across they are so wrapped up in the "message".

My sins are ever before me, chocolate, diet coke, sex and etc. I get up and pent out all my frustrations early in the morning while sinning with my first diet coke for the day. Then later on I repent as I reach for more sinful chocolate....All the time telling myself what a sinner I am........;)
Why does sin have to be sooooo good??
You actually know how to "pent"!!?? Cool, now I can do the running looking for a place to "pent" like I was advised earlier. So I do this with diet coke, chocolate and sex?? I will never get upset about being a sinner ever again. No not ever!!:D

Maybe I'm just having a bad day, but I am really getting tired of being labelled a sinner just because I don't believe in religions definition of God. Is it just me or is anyone else tired of the slogan, we are sinners and we must repent or be sent to hell for eternity. Why do people believe this stuff and why do they think it's alright to tell others this stuff too. Don't they see how hurtful and condescending this is? Sorry, but I'm really tired of the label my family and others give me and other's like me. Usually I'm pretty upbeat about it and let it slide off my back, but today it's getting to me a lot.

No matter how lightly you take it and how much you try to keep it in its proper perspective, there can still be those days where it gets to you.

My general reaction is about the same as if a child were to call me "dum-dum" - it's silly and meaningless. But, it can definitely wear on you during times of stress.

Personally, I don't give anyone - family or not - any impression that their superstitions are a potential topic of discussion with me. My mom still includes me on her mass email list of nutty christian stories, but I just delete it. I let her get away with that so she has some small sense that she's appeasing her god.

Yes they can wear you down. I usually am okay. I usually try to steer away from any discussion about beliefs because we are so many miles apart, there really is no way to do anything but agree to disagree. However, sometimes that doesn't happen and they get going. But I will be okay.

Yes I start *****ing about the weather and pent how things never go my way then all the while I am adding more sin by being a glutton with excessive diet coke, candy, and sex. So then that's why I have to repent about the penting....It's a vicious cycle being a sinner.....;)
Sinning is a hard job, but someone has to do it, might as well be me......:angel2:

Haha, that sounds like an awesome idea! Every time they try to draw people to them and listen, I'll just stand there in my devil costume with a devious look on my face making "come here" motions. Do the occasional evil laugh. Hell, it could become a street performance! Perhaps just for fun, I could dress up my dog in a devil costume too! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

It is surprising that other religions have invested as much time and understanding to get to know you and your life as well as GOD has to arrive at these conclusions. My advice, don't put other people or groups between you and GOD. Your relationship will always be between you and GOD.

I bear the title with pride. It really doesn't bother me, and I use it to bother those that would sling the title.

well, from a Christian perspective, everyone's a sinner. that doesn't mean that we aren't capable of making morally correct decisions or living in in a worthwhile manner.

what that means, is that we're not perfect. we mess up, and we fall short of God's glory. we're not flawless, omniscient, holy, or sinless. everyone, Christian or non-Christian, messes up and does things which cloud their hearts.

another way to say it is that our sin / imperfection / human-ness separates us from God. we can believe in Him, and come to know something of His presence and help in our lives, but to know Him personally is not something we can do in our present state. we need to go through Someone who is sinless, who knows God personally, and who is One with Him, that through this Person we might be forgiven, cleansed, and reconciled to God.

for a Christian to say that they are inherently better than anyone else is silly. no person, whatever faith they profess, is good, holy, or wise enough to know God and show others to Him. we all need help, guidance, direction, and mercy. and in the end, we all need grace. it's His grace, not our righteousness, which reconciles us to Him. i can't point to myself, and shouldn't. i should however point to the Son of God, who makes us righteous, right, and who lifts away the veil of sin and lostness between ourselves, and our Father.

another thing- many Christians will quickly look to non-Christians and judge them as sinful because of their faith.

instead of sharing the Gospel, or pointing them to the Son of God, they heap self-righteous blame on the person they're talking to, and make it into an ego trip for themselves.

instead of examining their own hearts for greed, unkindness, blasphemy, pettiness, or prejudice, all the blame goes to others. and that's so easy. what's less easy is respecting and loving one's neighbor (even while disagreeing with them), and working on making one's self a more visible reflection of Christ.

I've had that conversation too. But you're right my spiritual beliefs are mine!
