To What Extent, if ever, are Religions Escapes from Reality?

Steve Jobs claimed that doing LSD was one of the most defining parts of his life and led to a lot of inspiration for Apple (there's a joke in there somewhere).

Yeah. A tragic one.

Ultimately isn't it all about hedonism in the end?

Is that an actual question? Because if it is, then my answer is an emphatic "no".

A religion not aimed at an after life?.....

"Something Greater" aka God and Afterlife are actually obstacles to religious practice IMO.

The potential of many of these drugs is wasted in recreational use, I'd agree. But the degree to which some of these drugs can collapse your world might surprise you.

I wonder if I will ever understand why people talk so casually of that as if it could be a good thing - or even as if it usually was.

I can't help but find that weird.
