Transvestites - purpose?

What is it with transvestites?

what is the reason for their dressing style?

I imagine it is to be a mild case of gender dysphoria, right?

Where I work there are one or two people like this and it's often awkward whether to refer to them as boy or girl as who knows what they want to be called.

Another question must be - is it possible for a woman to be a transvestite?

when we consider clothing styles; if a woman were to wear generally male attire such as jeans and t-shirt, then it would just be normal.

how about a woman turning up to work in a tie and suit- would that be considered strange and would that make her to be labelled as such.

are there sexual orientation issues at work here?

any ideas?

People's physical bodies are sometimes mismatched to their innate gender identities.
Dressing or acting as women makes some men feel good, so more power to 'em, I say.

Women transvestites? Some women do affect male styles or appearance, but this is less remarkable than men adopting woman's styles.
At one time, though, a woman in trowsers would have been quite a sight.

Good point, UV. What is that thing?

It's a blue crystal of some kind.

nnmartin says they feel good to hold, and rub. ;)
magical energy he says.

It seems like a very unnatural thing for a male to engage in though,
I think the OP would agree.

Magical energy may be enough purpose for such a thing however.
The beautiful male... the lovely phallic...
it does generate a magical energy all it's own.

Some people like it.
I admire it mySelf.
Both the stunning transvestite and the gorgeous crystal.
They are eye candy to me.
I enjoy seeing them both.

I'll stick with no avatar for now.

as for eye candy, some transvestites can look good from a distance especially out in Bangkok, and sometimes it is hard to tell for sure.

Let's not confuse transvestites with transsexuals. The former is a fetish thing while the latter is an identity thing.

Exactly, I know my identity, and I love my fetish. I believe another difference is one is what you wear while the other starts shaving and altering their bodies, but not in all cases.

I don't want anyone to mistake me for a women, I just enjoy wearing silk.

I guess you could say I have a mild fetish.

Why does there have to be a purpose? Why can't they just "be"?
Having a purpose indicates a designer or the like.
Also, transgendered people are transvestites are two totally different types of people.

You're confusing transvestites with transsexuals and both with homosexuals?

I'll chime in because I recently spent 4 weeks in Thailand, one week of which was in Bangkok, a.k.a. trannie/ ladyboy capitol of the world and, I haven't checked with Stephen Hawking yet, but probably of the universe as well.

Trannies (or ladyboys as they're called there), aren't necessarily shunned by the Thai society as they would be in the western nations. Even then, their lives are tremendously difficult, more so than the gay population. For example, trannies cannot go into either the men or women's bathrooms in public or private spaces. Instead, they must find 'special' ladyboy bathrooms which are not as available. They cannot get jobs in most places other than in the sex or sex-related entertainment industries, and before you ask, yes, there is apparently a demand for their 'services'.Smaller percentage of tannies there are either 'post-op', meaning they've had their sex change surgeries. The majority are 'pre-op', saving up the money to have their sex change surgeries.

For me, seeing so many of them in person put a different context on the question of 'why' for trannies. They obviously knew the difficulties they would face when they began their new life of trying to assimilate and transform into the opposite sex yet they're compelled to do so.

Right or wrong, I at least admire their conviction. They feel so strong about their gender identity that they're willing to completely overcome the society's question of 'why' and have the courage to ask the question 'why not' and totally own the answer.

well that's not entirely true.

there are some airlines in Asia that now hire ladyboys as air hostesses.

they can also find work as receptionists and hotel staff

(all three of these examples I have actually seen with my own eyes)

Those are three career paths to really aspire for.
