Trump and QAnon?

Did you know that a much, much larger group of otherwise sane people advanced the "Russian collusion" conspiracy that was used to attempt overturn an election? QAnon is nothing compared to the forces behind the RC hoax!
And here we go with the disinformation that Qanon relies on, and spreads.

The direct collusion between the trump campaign and Russia is still unknown to the public, but what is revealed is direct contact between trump campaign officials and Russian intelligence officers. There is a lot of smoke.

I will simplify it, Political campaigns here in the U.S. use "op research" on opponents to dig up dirt. In the primaries, before Trump was the nominee, his (R) opponents did op research with a firm named Fusion GPS. Once Trump became the candidate the (R)'s stopped. HOWEVER, the Clinton Campagne picked it up and continued. A retired British MI6 agent named Christopher Steele (on the payroll of our FBI at the time) was used to procure intelligence information from several of his former contacts in Russia. Steele, working with others, compiled a "dossier" containing wild and unsubstantiated claims about Trump.

* Steele initially "leaked" his work to the press to doom the Trump campaign which failed.
* When the FBI discovered Steele to be the leaker he was fired.
* The DNC or Clinton Campagne initially denied being the source of funding for the dossier.
* Agents of the FBI knowingly and repeatedly used the specious dossier to obtain warrants in our secret FISA courts (failing to tell the court it was paid for by the DNC) to spy on associates of the Trump organization.

* In the aftermath of the bitter defeat Clinton and here sympathizers in the mainstream media continued to advance the conspiracy that the Russians actually conspired with Trump to defeat her when in fact it was the Clinton campaign that effectively conspired with Russian interest to defeat Trump which failed. Political foes continued to press the spurious dossier in an attempt to impeach Trump.

* In an ongoing investigation into the source of the dossier 2 arrests have been made. One a former FBI lawyer who pleaded guilty to altering an email between the CIA and FBI and Russia foreign policy analyst Igor Danchenko who lied about his contacts with DNC operatives.

And more in depth reporting explains that these cases did not taint all the intelligence collected. I suspect you are posting this reporting to distract from the unethical and corrupt acts by trump and his campaign.

Of course, you support unethical behavior so long as it against your opponents. The ends justify the means. Using secret courts to spy on pollical opponents is normal for the Left.

Show biz / sport.

Dont know about all media, even Global Times is accurate sometimes.
But left and right media is the USA do seem
immune to the idea of responsible reporting.

As I understand it, US print media still, a few exceptions aside, values it’s reputation for honest reporting; but print media appears to be in terminal decline.

I still read the (formerly Manchester) Guardian in print form, but I’m an old fossil.

Exactly! It's just a charge and therefore guilty until proven innocent.

What angered the Left is when Trump filled the front row of the debate with all the women Bill Clinton sexually assaulted over the years that the Left ignores.

Seems the nature of politics today. Not what your party can do for you but how your party can save you from the deplorables on the other team.
Historically this has been true from the very beginning. Its always easier to point out flaws and fears. What's different, now, is that you can poll to find out how much to spend on this and where. It takes the surprise out. We are guaranteed to have a near 50/50 split along voting lines.

In America the media is a political party disguised as journalism.

Same in the U.K., but most people had learned how to read between the lines. It’s harder now though, and more people get their info online; which means we are all receiving targeted news feeds, which just increases the polarisation of ideologies.

I’m not at all implying that all Trump supporters would have or do buy into QAnon. People are free to support whatever politician they please and usually it’s for a reasonable cause. Support of policy or even liking the media appearances. That’s fine. More power to you. I’m not here to condemn anyone’s political position at all.

I’m just here to sort of ask, what the hell is up with QAanon and why they as a movement seemingly chose Trump of all people to be the “messiah?”

Because I’m sorry guys but it just seems utterly bizarre to an outsider. And indeed there are seemingly chapters in my own country as a result. I doubt they’re huge chapters but they’re there
The cult of personality, the media cultivation and the subsequent “interpretations” I’ve since seen from the movement specifically.
Is it a culmination of many factors I’m not American enough or indeed old enough to understand?
And bonus question, do you think the movement itself can influence politics in the future? In whatever way.
I’m afraid I just crave context and information. Preferably from someone more aware of US culture than I am
QAnon is a hoax hyped up by the lying corporate media. CNN brings it up more than anyone else. They keep it in the public mind. No one really cares about it.

All you need is love.
I have personally encountered quite a few Trump supporters who bellyached about Bill Clinton's sexual sins (and they also point a judgmental finger of Biden), but they willingly turn a blind eye to Trump's multitude of sins, and they still spout off excuses to dismiss his bad behavior. "Trump's sins are between him and God" is one of the excuses that I've frequently heard.

Unfortunately, these prominent evangelical leaders have also publicly exposed their hypocrisy when it concerns Donald Trump.

Pat Robertson.

Standing by Donald Trump, Pat Robertson calls lewd video ‘macho talk’

Jerry Falwell, Jr.

Evangelical Jerry Falwell Jr. defends Trump: Jesus “never told Caesar how to run Rome”

James Dobson.

He publicly condemned Bill Clinton in 1998: "Character does matter. You can't run a family, let alone a country without it. How foolish to believe that a person who lacks honesty and moral integrity is qualified to lead a nation and the world."

Source: What James Dobson Said in 1998 About Moral Character and the Presidency

He enthusiastically endorsed Donald Trump in 2016. And in defense of Donald Trump, he said, "I’m not under any illusions that he is an outstanding moral example. It’s a cliché but true: We are electing a commander-in-chief, not a theologian-in-chief.”

Source: I’m an evangelical. The religious right leaders who support Trump don’t speak for me.

I can’t disagree.
It’s just that it’s so over the top now. I know that US politics in particular (no offence) are kind of…out there. Hell even my teachers used to mock US politicians and their grand gestures.
I dunno. I suppose this is merely a culmination of a long running history.
It’s still bizarre to me
People with no significant ethical imperatives to act as their behavioral compass tend to be controlled, then, by their egos. And when they're confronted with their own flaws or errors, will likely just 'double down' on them rather than admit to their being wrong. Because the ego exists to protect our idea of ourselves regardless of how wrong that idea might be. So as we keep 'doubling down' to maintain the illusion of our own righteousness, we just get crazier and crazier.

As someone who watches the actual people in the Movement (albeit through others reacting to them) I hesitate to agree. But I do not know your media news landscape.

And I mean no offence when I say this. But your news is seen as hyperbolic nonsense in general, regardless of the politics behind it.

But I’ll take your word for it

Alright, I just woke up, so might not be terribly coherent or credible, but this is how my morning brain is interpreting things(also, my husband started going down that 'QAnon' path before Trump was even a name in it, but jumped ship several years before it turned into the often racist nonsense it is today).

We have an elephant in the room we won't address, and that is classism. If we want to shout about racism and sexism, that's fine. But, if we want to talk about classism, its a little understood topic and everyone changes the subject. The wealthy right has for years made it known their feelings that if someone's in poverty, its their own damned fault, but I think the left started jumping in to add insult to injury without even realizing it. I feel in the years coming up to Trump being elected, the left says "lets bring everyone out of poverty!" Great, great! Noble ideas! But, something many don't understand is those living in poverty often have their own culture, to which they're not often very respectful to. "Here, Johnny, let me help lift you up, so you can be a tie wearing educated snob like myself!" and he begins to try to nag Johnny into doing what he does so he can get what he has, and Johnny thinks "well, I do want to feed my family, but I am a proud Christian man, and I want to keep working with my hands(or field, or other manual labor job). I don't want to be a bookish, secular nerd like Philip." But Philip keeps pressing that his way is best until Johnny starts to become agitated, irritated, and eventually blows.

So here we had this newly founded(and very loud) group of folks who had been rejected by both those on the mainstream left and the mainstream right, and Trump saw opportunity and jumped into to claim leadership over a group that didn't exist in years prior. And he created a monster with it, pushing forward his own values and dreams of absolute leadership, using this poor saps to do his bidding without even realizing they were being duped.

As I understand it, US print media still, a few exceptions aside, values it’s reputation for honest reporting; but print media appears to be in terminal decline.

It is. I have been a physical paper reader for over a decade, but my daily paper is just a few sheets now... more ads than anything.
