It's obviously another attempted spin on what is essentially nothing.

Well, nothing except that the President of the United States (a 73 year old millionaire in charge of the world's most powerful military who negotiates with the most powerful people in the world) told a 16 year old environmental activist she needs anger management because she won an honor he covets.

He could have been <gasp> gracious about it. Or even just silent.

Yes they did.

She's a mentally ill dependent child. They picked this.

Greta Thungerg clinically has an Asperger Syndrome, but that doesn't mean she's disabled or so mentally ill she's completely dependent on parental support. Thunberg herself believes that her syndrome doesn't hinder her anymore. While she does admit it caused her some problems at school when she was younger, she received proper medical support and treatment and like most people with similar syndrome she has developped tricks and psychologgical mechanism to adapt and manage her syndrome. She also claim that the mechanism she had to develop, her ticks have made her all the more stronger; in other words, that which didn't kill her made her stronger. She cited that that her Asperger Syndrome did impact her psychology by giving her clarity and determination (medically speaking, most high functionning autist like Greta for example are known to have strong focus and passion for some subjects and a lower level of tolerance for hypocrisy compared to the average person). Implying that because someone suffers from a form of mental illness that they can't be functionnal, passionate or remarcable is as stupid as its insulting.

The honor of being person of the year has been trivialized by this supposedly coveted prize being awarded to a climate change fear monger instead of being rightfully awarded to our P.O.T.U.S. who has lived up to the promises he's made to us right-wing populist American nationalists, and he has stopped endless war as well as led a nation into nearly unprecedented prosperity.

Why is the president of the United States cyberbullying a 16-year-old girl? | Nancy Jo Sales
She is known to have Asperger's disorder, and one of the symptoms can be anger issues. I know, because I have Asperger's, and anger is one of my symptoms. Anyway, Trump made a comment like she should control her anger, and "just chill".and watch a movie with friends. I want to know your thoughts.

It's not appropriate for the President to take shots at her personally. She's too young. However, regardless of her age, since she is so vocal, so opinionated, and so famous, the President has every right to shoot down her opinions aggresively.

I'm not going back through three pages of RF.

Wasn't the OP about poor Greta being hurt by a tweet from Trump?

If not, then what was it about?
Tom
I figured it was about how pathetic it is for the President of the United States to take time out of his “busy schedule” to tweet something sarcastic about a 16 year old girl who is trying to do something good and meaningful with her life.

Remember Trump is the guy who said global warming was a hoax created by the Chinese. He needs to shut up and listen to Greta.

I see it as parents with an apparent hero complex living through their daughter. The girl is clearly coached and her health issues are exploited to trigger emotional responses.

I agree with Trump. The girl needs to chill a bit and live a sixteen years old's life and leave the adult stuff to the adults.

Maybe. I still don't see all the fuss being made over his comments except for those who happen to see controversy in just about anything coupled with a pathological obsession with decrying everything Trump says and does regardless of weither its actually demeaning or not.

Classic TDS.

This poem well articulates how Greta Thurberg has been blinded by climate change fright.

Blinded by the fright
Revved up like a deuce
A looney picking a fight
Blinded by the fright

Madman drummer bummers
Sweden in the summer
With a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps
As the adolescent pumps
her way into her hat
With a boulder on her shoulder
Feeling kinda older
She tripped a merry-go-round
With this very unpleasing
Sneezing and wheezing
Her calliope crashed to the ground

But she was blinded by the fright
Revved up like a deuce
A looney picking a fight
Blinded by the fright
Revved up like a deuce
A looney picking a fight

Some silicone sister
With her manager mister
Told her she got what it takes
He said, I'll turn you on honey to something strong
Play the song with the funky break
And go-kart Mozart
Was checking out the weather chart
To see if it was safe outside
And little Early Pearly
Came by in his curly-wurly
And asked her if she needed a ride

'Cause she was blinded by the fright
Revved up like a deuce
A looney picking a fight
Blinded by the fright

She got down but she never got uptight
She's gonna make it to the night
She's gonna make it through the night

But Obama, that's where the fun is

Obama always told her not to bask into the rays of the sun
But Obama, that's where the fun is

Some brimstone baritone
Anticyclone rolling stone
Preacher from the east
Says, "Dethrone the Dictaphone
Hit it in its funny bone
That's where they expect it least."
And some new mown chaperone
Was standing in the corner
Watching the young girls dance
And some fresh-sown moonstone
Was messing with his frozen zone
Reminding him of her stance

Her calliope crashed to the ground

But she was blinded by the fright
Revved up like a deuce
A looney picking a fight
Blinded by the fright
Revved up like a deuce
A looney picking a fight

Madman drummers bummers and Sweden in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps her way into her hat

With a boulder on her shoulder feelin' kinda older. She tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing her calliope crashed to the ground

And now a Robot with a slingshot finally found a tender spot and throws its rover in the sand
And some bloodshot forget-me-not whispers daddy's within earshot save the buckshot turn up the band

Some silicone sister with her manager mister told her she got what it takes
He said I'll turn you on honey to something strong

She got down but she never got tired
She's gonna make it through the night

How are they making other children mentally ill. It would be very interesting to hear how you can rationalise that statement

They are using every propaganda crick in the book.

If we not careful, we will end up with a new version of the Hitler Youth.

The Time Editors see it differently. Besides, Trump has had the honor before.

It turns out that the person in one of the most powerful positions on the planet--if not the most powerful--is really very insecure. I can't imagine why someone in his position would value doing it or take the time, but he is Trump and his feelings get hurt easily. Even 16 year old females are threatening to him.

It is not clear she is being couched. She seems genuinely concerned about environmental issues: Greta Thunberg - Wikipedia

All this stuff about her parents and "handlers" appear to be ad hominem attacks attempting to discredit her.

I doubt it. Unless she's some savant or uber genius with a master's or PhD she's just a sixteen year old. Immature and gullible. Like any other teen.

The Teen Brain: It's Just Not Grown Up Yet

It's just reality.

...it doesn't take a doctor or genius to understand the basics of climate change and how human influences on ecosystems can be disastrous.

Actually, teens tend to be vigorous activists. Developmentally, they are beginning to form their own opinions separate from adults. They are energetic and not bogged down by the responsibilities of adult life.

While teens may lack some of the maturity and experience of adults, they also lack some of the biases and tend to view the world in terms of fairness.

I teach at-risk teenagers. They are VERY capable of learning and understanding science, and they are less motivated than average teens.
