United States of Pornography

I am 100% with you Peace2011. You are spot on.

Those who dismiss the words of this man are living in self-delusion.

The scourge of the West is sexual immorality in the American Porn Industry and in Hollywood.

Those who disagree and too caught up in their own self-interests and lustful ways.

I would sooner see someone make some substantially supported claims than just blunder in and say something stupid.

edit: I have a feeling no one will offer up substantial support for the OP with reasonable evidence.

I think we're missing the boat here. Instead of engaging in censorship, which is implied as advocated by the OP, perhaps we should engage in other non-Western punitive measures, such as cutting off the offending body parts. That would surely put a quick stop to repeat offenses...

"puritanism: the haunting fear that someone, somewhere is having a good time"

I'm not going to argue against probable schizophrenia that doesn't speak English, but please people why can't you keep your nose out of other peoples business? If it doesn't hurt anyone else and it involves consenting adults, go suck it.

I'm not convinced that the pornography industry doesn't hurt anyone, though.

I sort of agree, you have to have been exploited in the past (abuse of some kind) to want to participate in that sort of thing putting issues of money aside but the government is not here to be peoples psychologist. If that's the case we should ban other exploitative professions like strippers and exotic dancers.

And there are many other industries that have a dark side too like meat packing businesses using illegal aliens as workers etc.

Not denying any of that. Nor am I advocating a ban. I just have certain qualms.

Actually, watching porn does make certain individuals more apt to rape.
Though we can quickly conclude it is not the porn per se, but the porn is a powerful trigger to which underlining problems exist.

I would like to see research articles on this because most certainly answers point the other way

Hey, Skwimmy...why no "Democrat" shown...only "Republican"?
Censorship of porn & disdain for sex workers appears to be on both sides of the aisle.

That's fair enough, there are many things I don't agree with but feel people should have the freedom to do them.

I don't buy it.
Evidence?

I didn't want to get to into this because I'm too lazy to look up stats. Maybe I'm wrong  but most of the porn stars I've seen who say they are "empowered" by working in porn are usually balls of crazy when you get into their personal lives, even if they claim too not have come from abuse. I'm not convinced someone would get f'ed on camera for pure profit alone but maybe I'm naive.

Thanks for the head's up. The post is essentially a copy of peace2011's reply, which I took because it was such a dense wall of text. I've now changed it so it reads correctly.
