Then you're saying the gospels were written by Romans? Or at least, those who supported the Romans against the Jewish leaders?

yes. the gospels were written for a wider audience...jews that believed jesus was the messiah and gentiles
and the gospels where setting up a case to separate themselves from those jews who thought jesus was a fake.

It's the title of the OP that really turned me off. I wouldn't have asked that question, I would have asked- "What really happened to Jesus' body after the crucifixion?" The question was what made me question the motive of the thread.

As for Pilate, I always believed that he washed his hands to put it away from him out of fear- not for any righteousness.

Well I got the title from a chapter in Crossan's book

Oh I do. For that and his Cross Gospel. He's still a brilliant and funny guy though.

I really don't believe Crossans theory that there was no body because it was eaten. I have my own theory...Mary Magdalene was a mentally ill woman has the Bible says she was and she most likely hallucinated the resurrection of Jesus and the disciples believed her

Even better in person.

Half the time he's not trying to be funny, though. In the end he's just a quack, riding on the coat-tails of the brilliance that he had twenty years ago. It's disappointing to see someone who made significant contributions come to think that they can just make up whatever they want, and contribute nothing to any serious discussion of the topic.

The real problem is that less educated people read Crossan's recent work, and are significantly side-tracked rather than pointed in the direction of critical thinking. Crossan pulled this right out of his ***. And he does it for a living.

Scholars actually joke about this kind of thing behind their reader's back. He knows that he's selling crap, we know he's selling crap, and you're happy to eat it.

When a person died on the cross, the Roman would often leave the body on the cross to rot and the carcass would be eaten by scavenger birds.

Sometimes they would take the body down and throw it either in a shallow common grave or a trash heap where the carcass would be eaten by wild dogs and vultures. Never in any other accounts of crucifixion have the Roman let a common criminal be taken down and buried. The whole thing was to be as cruel and horrible, to not only to punish the criminal but to show the subject people that this is what could happen to them if they got on the wrong side of Rome.

The death was meant to be as humiliating as possible, the criminal was considered trash and treated as such, so why would the Romans treat Jesus' carcass any different?

So was Jesus actually buried in the tomb of a wealthy man or did the Romans treat him like every other rabble rouser and just dump his body in the trash and let it be eaten by dogs?
Jesus (pbuh) is great messanger of God , btw , in the accident of cross , He rescue by God .

The texts state she was possessed by demons and evil spirits. I take that as an ancient way of saying a person was insane and so do many scholars

No. One possible explanation of possession could be mental illness but there are other explanations as well. To put forward a theory as fact is a mistake and to claim the bible verified such a theory is close to a lie.
