I'm trolling the internet in search of good PS2 RPG's. And what is good only seems to be only released in America, is far too expensive (I refuse to pay sixty dollars or more for a game that is several years old, on a last-gen console), or I've already played it.

I will persevere.

I have been in search for RPG as well latelly, only then for the 360.

So far I found oblivion wich runs way way better on my PC, and blue dragon and fable II were way way too easy.. :(
I am still busy with blue dragon, but almost every enemy dies after one blow or my characters won't die..
I started some XBOX rpg's in the wait for FF13, but I do hope that that one will rock my socks instead of ..not..

Couple of questions rojse. How come when I read reviews for games they have different reviews for the Australian and American games? For example they may give a score of 8.2 (out of 10) and 7.0 for the Australian version. Does it have anything to do with content?

What is it that you need to play American games on your PS2? For example, is it a regional issue in the software or hardware. If I brought my PS2 down to Australia would I be able to plug in play. Could I purchase these games in American and then ship them to you in Australia?

Australia is set up on PAL, along with Europe and Mexico, while America is set up on NTSC. It's a silly system, because some of the more interesting RPG's only got an English release in America.

I would need to purchase an American console, and although there are some games that I would like to play, I don't yet see a hundred dollars value in a second PS2 console that can only play imported games.

Oh, and if someone can explain why there is this division between European games and American games, I would greatly appreciate it.

EDIT: Forgot the question about ratings scores. No idea, personally. For a very small minority of games, it might be a greatly-delayed PAL release, but for most, I have no idea - it's certainly not the content, because I have no problems using FAQs written by Americans.

Can't say much about the Australian version, but I can say something about my own country regarding this..

Too many games come to America before they get to Europe. Thankfully this is getting better latelly. Many reviews differ because of that, because when it entered your country on it's release, the graphics and engine were Hot and New. A Half year later, this no longer applies, so the review is based more upon story for example.
Games like assasins creed can get broken like that very easy..

On the other hand, dutch people can handle blood better than you guys :p
So games like Manhunt 2 are not cencored here and gets generally higher scores.

Censorship is only an issue for a small amount of games, and for the games I play, censorship because of gore or explicit sex is not really an issue.

I do play some gore games, but I believe they were not different somewhere else, like the silent hill series.
It was just to point out the differences, I don't even like manhunt. I played the first one and got bored really quick.

Wasn't criticising you at all - gore has it's place in games, movies and books, but I need more than that to amuse me.

I loved Manhunt! I'm a sucker for stealth-based gaming tho.

I need to hack my PS3 so I can get the uncensored version of Manhunt 2. I'm just wary since Sony has such strict warranty policies. I chipped my PS2 and that allowed me to play several Japanese only releases. It was worth it.

got an old copy of The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind on the 360, good stuff, looks like crap tho, but still good

Morrowind is way better than Oblivion in pretty much every way ever except magic and that one lame escort quest in the main quest line.

Totally agree. I was psyched for Oblivion, but I couldn't get nearly as immersed into it as I did Morrowind - the world of Morrowind just felt larger, more open, and more varied.

How would I go about chipping a PS2? I am interested in playing several NTSC games.

I had my friend install a mod chip, but he's a game designer and a hardware junkie so it was no problem for him. He just soldered a mod chip into my old PS2 and it was good to go.
If you or someone you know is comfortable installing it into your PS2 manually then the chip is an option. They pop up on EBay every once in awhile and usually run around $100 U.S. That's more than a PS2 though, so I'm not sure if you consider that reasonable. If so, just search "mod chip PS2" on EBay.

My friend also mentioned Swap Magic but I'm not too familiar with it:
Welcome to Swap Magic 3 Official Web Site
The site also has some links worldwide where mod chips can be purchased.

I rented GTA: Chinatown Wars for DS last night. All I can say is WOW! It's top view like GTA 1&2 but it is the most expansive and detailed game I have found on DS. A lot of people complained about the lack of radio stations but I think they did the perfect job in scaling certain things back while retaining the things that really make the game detailed. I'll be buying this one even at full price.

I finished Mario And Luigi: Partners In Time (DS) and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army (PS2).

Finally caved in and purchased Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica (PS2) with the bonus music CD. Mrscardero and I visited six GameStop stores and not one had a copy of it used. Don’t know when I will get to this game but in the meantime, for portable purposes, I finally (submitted) and bought a copy of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth (PSP) which I always wanted to play but was waiting for the game to go down in price. A previous GameStop manager told me if I see it for less than $25.00 to pick it up because I probably won’t see a significant price drop in this title.

Mrscardero finally picked up Chrono Trigger but couldn’t remember if she already purchased it (give me a break!).

Mrscardero and I had to start Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles over again and we are doing better than the first time we played it. Taking a break from video games after FFCC.

I went back and found my old Sega Genesis game console- Sword of Vermilion, Phantasy Star III, D&D The Warriors of the Sun, and Shining in the Darkness (I had a hard time with that last one).
