Q: Can anyone recommend a good 1st person shooter game which is in the thick of a battle, rather than too many buildings, but all out battle field action? could be future, present or past time setting/theme?

Thanks CarderoTimespliters or Serious Sam.
Q: Also what is a good alternative to Age Of Empries 3, with the same level of fun and interaction?
Thanks!
Hi RiverwolfI played the first Age of Empires, so I assume you mean another good Real Time Strategy game.
Warcraft, any of the original three games. The first one, released in '94, is subtitled "Orcs and Humans." This one's for the real retro-gamers, as it hasn't aged too well. The second game was subtitled "Tides of Darkness," and was a significant improvement. It received later an expansion, "Beyond the Dark Portal." The third game, "Reign of Chaos" focused heavily on story and combat, and is very fun to play, and the story is, in the TRUE sense of the word, Epic. It really flows with the same kind of length and character depth as an old Epic poem. It, too, received an expansion, "The Frozen Throne," which is a sequel of sorts, and while the story isn't as strong, the gameplay is still solid, and in some ways improved. (This expansion is where the multiplayer shines... just not in standard battle.net; get a mod.)
If you want a more realistic approach, you can't get much better than Stronghold: Crusader. In that you have to not just defeat the enemy, but manage the Castle, as well.
If you want to go futuristic, Starcraft all the way.
If you want a turn-based strategy game (along the lines of a board game), ANY of the Civilization games. (Though II and IV are my favorites.) Unlike the first Warcraft, the first Civilization aged fairly well.
Hi Riverwolf
Thank you, lots of options you provide.
I thought World of Warcraft was online only, I assume you said "Warcraft" as the earlier games were perhaps more PC only?
I bought the Civilisation IV complete, but I didn't like the turn taking feature, where you have to click the button and wait for three turns (or similiar) I obviously haven't played it much since then. Pehraps there is a trick to enjoying it more?
thanks!
