According to Fatihah; I made this thread so the other wouldn't get off topic. He brought this up and I'd like to discuss it with him.

That was not the argument as it was presented to me. For the sake of the argument, assume that nothing can be created without intelligence.

This is not my belief now, but when I was younger, this is what I thought (which ended up leading me to leave my church and actually questioning my beliefs). I personally say it as God having parents, who had him. In return, God's parents had parents, and so on and so forth. Only a temporary bandage to the problem though.

Our forefathers didn't understood science & nature back then. And everything was turned into a god.

The sun and moon was turned into gods. You had storm gods, gods of fire, fertility and so the list goes on.

The religious have no problem in accepting god without a cause, it suits their purpose to order their lives and over come the stresses of life, lose of loved ones and the fear of death. Its simply matter of swallowing faith...

That god created energy. I actually know one theist who believes that God was the energy that started everything.

And what if God is energy? The utmost purest form of energy would have the ability to create anything (including matter) and have the means of manipulating the basis of anything lesser into whatever it so chose.
